Windows 8.1 issues

Looking for a little help. I can't run STO on my Windows 8.1 desktop. I have the GE Force 745 and everytime I run the game, it patches fine but then crashes. I have updated the video card driver, tried compatability mode but no luck. I have read where people run STO on 8.1 on here and checked the Microsoft site and it shows 8.1 is incompatible with STO. This would reeaaalllyyy suck lol.

I run Diable III and Star Wars The Old Republic with no issues.

Any help would be appreciated...Thanks!!!

Oh I have attached my video card specs.

I ran STO just fine on Windows 8.1 before I upgraded to 10. Oddly enough I have a GTX 760 so the architecture isn't too far off. I experienced something similar after one of the major updates a while back. I ended up having to reinstall STO from scratch to fix the issue. (Basically uninstall STO, reboot, then reinstall it from the ARC client.) I'd probably start there and see if that improves things.

While you're at it make sure all your drivers are updated (Motherboard, audio, GTX, etc..) Sometimes it could be conflicting somewhere causing it to crash.

try doing a force verify through the launcher first (under options / Patching.). sometimes a .dll will get corrupted

Turn off your fire wall then repatch the game. I when the game launches reenable your fire wall. That will fix your problem I think you update altered your firewall settings as it happens to me too same thing

The firewall is messing with the game patch system.

I could be wrong but I think this is your problem. Every time I do a major up date to my comp. I must disable my comp's firewall temporarily to repatch the game

Thanks amigos for the suggestions, I tried them---updating my drivers (think i got them all), verify files, turned off all of my firewalls, antivirus, anti-spyware. I also tried a couple of other things lol. I did snip segment off my error log, it was rather long and illustrious so I didn't want to take up a whole webpage.

Seems to be a connection error with the patch server...maybe. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the game several times...UGH!!

I am running a new HP Desktop.

If you are experiencing A) game crashes after changing your in-game graphics settings and cannot change them back or B) recently patched the game and are noticing graphical issues when playing which cannot be fixed by changing the in-game settings please try the following:

Locate the GamePrefs.pref file in the game installation folder
Delete the GamePrefs.pref file
Restart the game

Also ARC Troubleshooting

Could be that your firewall is blocking the patch server.
