Star Trek Online: Tales of the War #14

Admiral's Log
Stardate 87264.5
Earth Spacedock

When I close my eyes, all I see is wreckage.

Blasted ships strewn about space like broken toys. Escape pods that offered no refuge. Broken bodies …

I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. There are hundreds of people I'd like to apologize to who will never have the chance to hear my meaningless words. And the letters we send to their families are cold comfort at best.

We had to do something. The Iconians are winning. Their Heralds are moving beyond military targets now to civilian populations. They're trying to force us to bow to their rule … but kneeling is not in our nature.

So we pushed back. We gathered every ship we could muster and attacked. And we failed.

Oh, there are some in Starfleet Command arguing that we had a partial victory. The Iconians have lost their leader, and we've proven that the Iconians are not immortal. But it was a pyrrhic victory. So many lives lost to take just one …

And, if anything, it has only strengthened the Iconians' resolve. Instead of cutting the head off the snake, we gave them a martyr.

Herald attacks have increased by 36 percent in the last 78 hours. And now Heralds of L'Miren are joining the fight, so they have fresh reinforcements where we have battered and outnumbered ships.

How do you fight a war when more than twenty percent of your officers are in sickbay? When more than a third of your fleet is either destroyed or disabled?

The only thing I can think to do is change tactics. We rejected the Krenim ship because it would take too long to build. Because the questions of time alteration are too thorny. Because there should be lines we shouldn't cross. That we can't cross.

Those lines seem hazy today. If the choice is morality or destruction, I fear that many even in Starfleet will choose the option that gives us a chance to see tomorrow.

What will I choose?

I Hope they don't use that timeship weapon to end the war...
Would be a really really easy way out.

And so not Star Trek...

My guess is they're going to erase the Iconians from existence but that would change time in ways they cannot comprehend. The Iconians have been around for a lot longer than the current species. There's no telling what would happen. If they do this then they really haven't thought it through.

They erase the iconians and suddenly we get to play JJTrek online as a consequence. Hope your graphics cards can handle all the post processing lens flare.

Go into STO. Do you see the Federation, Klingon Empire and Romulan Republic being wiped out? Of course not. For a while, 90% of the best captains where on Risa doing crap while badly losing a war :face:

This clearly shows that the Iconians are just part of a series of featured episode, in the end having as much impact on the game as the Breen, Devideans, Tal Shiar and old guard Jem'hadar did when their featured episodes came out.

The story behind the Iconians isnt actually too bad in iteself, the issue is, that you do not really feel that story impact our game world.

ESD should burn again, Earth being under Siege, Quo'Nos in ruins, the icionians in those missions should be able to slaughter us.

But hey lets just hang all out on risa while the big bad guys burn the galaxy :P

And if the galaxy is next to being ill get really angry because I cant relax on risa anymore, take my ship and slaughter all of them single handeldy while kicking the iconians to death with my bare feet....

Compare it to story writing in GW2 where the story is ok'ish, however you feel a grave impact on the game world. When a major City (Lions Ark) was attacked, it actually got destroyed, you couldnt enter it for a while, then only the runins, then you saw it being rebuilt slowly until it was fully rebuilt.

There the story and actions of players actually feel like they impact the world.
But in STO? omg i couldnt care less about everyone being wiped out by the iconians because I know nothing will happen to my chill out place on Risa or ESD where i can hang around.
