STO Questions and Answers thread

Post by Pattern »

I've been away from STO for a while, most of these are going to be questions about how do you grind X, where do you find Y, so I apologise for this in advanced.

Feel free to chime in with your own questions, and answers. Over the last year, seems like a lot of the knowledge about this game has been made obsolete with stuff being pushed out so frequently.

Anyway, here goes.

Ground Kit - For your class and race, what do you use and why? What should a Fed Tac officer use? Links to ground build threads would be appreciated.

Delta marks - What missions run them? Beyond the daily and subsequent 10 mark per run patrol missions, and the terrible Kobali prime - I have no idea where to find this.

What universal consoles are you running on your ships - plasmodic leach? the new iconian rep god console?

How are you grinding XP for specialisation points? - Again, I've been infrequently running Aragla (sp?) and doffing getting a new level every 2 days. (And they said I should run multiple characters... :guffaw: ) - Any suggestions on grinding these levels faster?

On a side note, no one in fleet seems to be doing stuff together anymore, no ones running missions together - is the fleet dying? Is STO dying? What's going on?

No comments about the STO stuff, since I've not been playing in a while. I'll comment on this though:

The GTA V part of the forums seems to be quite active. A part from that, yeah TS server is dead when log in and there's nothing happening on the forums.

There are quite a few new Kit parts out there these days, a couple of which are truly universal, meaning that they can go in any career kit in any slot. One of these in particular that I have been enjoying is the new Romulan Naval Kit "Plasma Cascade" power. You can grab it along with a pretty nice piece of Armor and Shield (the three of those make a set), from the "Uneasy Allies" mission.

I actually have been running the Kobali stuff as a Daily because the recent server lag has kept me from being able to play PvE queues of late.

The nice thing about the Kobali Dailes (At the Gates and The Last Stand), however, is that there are two, they are quick, and you can run each one twice per day giving you the following:
  • Daily Delta Marks (~65)
  • Daily Iconian Marks (~65)
  • Delta Elite Marks (2)
  • Iconian Elite Marks (2)

Have not tried the new Iconian Console yet, I'll be interested to hear what others say about that myself. And yes, still running the Leach console here.

Frankly, I don't focus on the grind part of Specialization Points. I sort of ignore that I need them and do other stuff, then when I earn them it's a little more fun. Basically I don't pay attention the the progress bar, I just run whatever I am running.

I disagree with your assessment on these points. I find that there are a lot of folks in-game these days, and depending on the time of day you can see a number of folks hanging out on TS as well.

Keep in mind, that over the past 3-4 weeks, people have been leveling Delta Recruits, often on more than one faction, and not everyone has their new Toons at the point where they can run the Advanced queues effectively.

That said, people do run stuff together, and every day I see folks in the chat in-game looking for teams.

My best advice is that you jump in and put some teams together while you're in-game.

My opinion is that neither STO nor this Fleet are dead. It's not a new game anymore, and we see a lot more activity from the old guard when there is something new and shiny introduced, then they duck out again. But we are still getting new members and returning members regularly joining the Fleet and we still have 300+ active members, they just might not all be the names you remember. Many of these are not the folks that used to hang out on Team Speak, but there are plenty of people around.

maj!

depends on what im playing and what im flying.

as an engineer my ground kit consists of fuse armor, weapon malfunction, frictionless grenade, recharge shield, subspace rift.

for a tac i'd suggest anything that boosts your damage or mitigates damage taken. plasma grenades if your dealing with stationary targets

as for delta marks, borg disconnect norm its unfailable. or if your feeling adventurous bug hunt adv or elite (although now there isnt a point to running these since you can get the powercells from the rep system via a 20hr cd.)

as for consoles, isometric charge is great on a sci boat with gravwell hehehehe

I've always had some sort of grenade in my ground gear. Usually the plasma. I currently run the Romulan Navy gear. Quite high damage, a good set. I still miss my MACO shield recharge though.

I have given up on leech. I specced for shield and energy drain, fitted some embassy consoles to boost but still found it worthless. I'm still running my a2b build on my FAC. It's the most succesful ship i've ever used. I also use that new Iconian console. I can't say i've noticed any major difference really but i have been doing grounds more than space recently.

As for fleet, to me it feels dead. Yeah there are people online but everyone seems to keep to themselves. I've tried making conversation many times, sometimes i get people chatting and other times i just get static. People just need to "mingle" more. That being said there are some of the new members that i often talk to in game. I always try to use 12th chat so everyone can see, maybe that's why i get on with new members so well.

I actually earned most of my delta marks and xp with that exploit on Kobali Prime, before they patched it. Oh and Argala before we were all branded as cheaters for using it.

My theme for my primary toon (joined trill) in my mind is the squad leader. So I use the following modules in a Spire kit:
  • Overwatch
  • Rally Cry
  • Deadly Intent
  • Motivation
  • Cryogenic grenade (from Q's Winterwonderland)
In addition to that I use always my Mk 14 Omega Force set and have in most cases my TR-116B as second weapon ready. A nice synergy to the Omega Force set is the gambling device. I use only two ground character traits: Strike Team and Vicious. My reputation ground traits are there to increase my chance to land critical hits or increase its damage.
Delta marks - What missions run them? Beyond the daily and subsequent 10 mark per run patrol missions, and the terrible Kobali prime - I have no idea where to find this.
Run the PvE queues is in my opinion the best way to get Delta Marks. My favourite is the ground mission Bug Hunt Elite, because it gives you quite a lot of good items: Salvaged Technology, 2x Ancient Power Cores, Delta Marks (+ daily bonus).
What universal consoles are you running on your ships - plasmodic leach? the new iconian rep god console?
I can't comment on the iconian reputation console, because I don't have it.
How are you grinding XP for specialisation points? - Again, I've been infrequently running Aragla (sp?) and doffing getting a new level every 2 days. (And they said I should run multiple characters... :guffaw: ) - Any suggestions on grinding these levels faster?
I do get levels mainly through doffing. Watch out for 12h assignments, they give the best reward per time. Best place for 12h assignments for Feds is the Delta Quadrant.
On a side note, no one in fleet seems to be doing stuff together anymore, no ones running missions together - is the fleet dying? Is STO dying? What's going on?
I blame Delta Recruit event :P and many are levelling their new alts. I observe less activity in the public STF channels as well.

I've found that Trajectory Bending from the new lockbox (runs pretty cheap atm I think) to be pretty useful as all your attacks deal flanking damage and the cd is pretty short.

Ground Kit - If you are rich, go for Melee http://forums.12th-fleet.com/viewtopic. ... 69&t=25435

Otherwise, run the Iconian Mission under the Iconian Arc 3-4 times so you can get that new Romulan Navy Set (it boosts Plasma ground damage and the kit gives you +20% plasma damage and you get a good plasma repeater pistol too from that mission)

As for powers:

* Trajectory Bending (its absolutely awesome, not only does it give you flank when you do not flank, but also +66% crit severity),
* Plasma Cascade (also from that iconian mission its really good against ranged enemies)
* Polaron Bombardment (rather cheap good aoe I like it so far)
* Battle Strategies
* Motivation (rather nice extra damage for the whole group always nice to have)

Delta marks - Bug Hunt Elite 70+ marks for 5 minutes of easy going ground STF (do elite because usually the palyers doing the Elite Queue know what they do and its way more realxing than normal or advanced) (Added bonus, you get a choice between Delta and the new Iconian Marks!)

What universal consoles are you running on your ships - Borg Console, Plasma Leech, Zero Point Converter (2% crit from one of the reps i think romulan), Iconian Console (its godlike) also you get a really good console if you do the new featured episode Delta Flight (+Flight Speed + Turn Rate and 7.5% of your weapon power goes to aux)

With my romulan I can pretty much have perma 125 energy in all subsystems with my build on the intel warbird which is really nice.

How are you grinding XP for specialisation points? - I don't it is really not worth it fretting over those points, yes they are nice but not that huge of a difference and for ground they mostly suck anyways (and for space if you have a specialised ship you can get the powers of the exchange)

Also there will be more and more of those stupid specialisations so its a never ending treadmill.

On a side note, no one in fleet seems to be doing stuff together anymore, no ones running missions together - is the fleet dying? Is STO dying? What's going on?

Fleet and STO are fine, the problem is currently new PvE missions that give really nice rewards, Delta Recruitment.
