We’re pleased to announce the return of the Research and Development Weekend! This event will run from March 19th at 9:00 AM PDT to March 23rd at 10:00AM PDT, and features several bonuses throughout STO that will give Captains of all levels a leg up advancing their rank in the Research and Development school(s) of their choice.

For those Captains looking specifically for extra help with their projects, all R&D packs throughout the game will give out an extra 25% of the items they currently disperse for the duration of this event. Queue R&D Material Reward Packages (Normal, Advanced and Elite) will reward 25% more R&D Materials and have a chance to reward a Catalyst.

Alternatively, Captains wanting to advance through Research and Development schools as fast as possible should seek out Harvest Nodes, located in mission maps throughout STO, which will not only disperse 2 extra R&D Materials each time they are used, but will also reward 10 Dilithium Ore and have a chance to give out a R&D Catalyst during this event.

For all Captains that work on a Research and Development project during this weekend event, those projects will reward an extra 50% of the appropriate Research and Development School XP. This includes projects to make components as well as those to make items.

Maybe but it's like putting a band aid on a wound that's already had salt poured on it.

"We know you hate the grind, so here's something to make you feel a bit better, but we're not going to fix the hated system. In fact, here's two new grinds for you."

You do realize that this is a normal reoccurring event; they just do a hype announcement for each one so people know they are happening.

It is a great time to open R&D packs that one may or may have not held onto to get extra mats. And being now that you can run three of the same xp projects you can get an extra 9k of xp for that one school.

Most of the time you can see these type of events coming up on the calendar in game so this is nothing they just threw in of the moment. The events rotate through the months.

I'm just glad I can have my bank space back. I've been hoarding all my reward boxes since the announcement. :P

I cant recall any other time in the games history besides the Calender where Events took place so consistently, back to back as well as overlapping.

This has been consistent since about 3 weeks after the launch of Delta Rising.

At this point either Cryptic conveniantly planned this out to coincide with a poor reception of the expansion. Or its a reaction to the poor reception.

Considering that Geko has kind of gone back on the 'the reporting bug' comment stating they plan to introduce weekly rewards for unpopular queues. I have to believe that they arent doing so well on numbers and theyre doing everything they can to pull players back to the game. Sure theyve hit it big with ship sales to their whales. Probably larger purchases then ever before in the past. But I have no doubt the metrics reflect a drop off in activity.

Also I posted it for those that do not check the Star Trek: Online website or know about or look regularly at the in-game calendar.
