PS3 controller on a PC

Post by Anubis_E »

ok, i'm looking for a bit of help with this.
The goal is making the PS3 conroller work on my windows 8.1 PC.

I've trying a few things, some actually made it seem like it's working as an xbox360 controller (as in, the driver settings recognize controller activity) but when going about my game of choice (Dragon Age: Inquisition), i need to click on the "start" button... but it just doesn't respond.

any ideas? help? cupcakes? :)

I've not used a PS3 pad on pc before, only 360 pad using the wireless adapter gadget from Microsoft.

What software are you using or are you just plugging in via usb without drivers???

Check this site out, not sure if it will help you, but it seems like what you are looking for.

From what I can tell is that using the 360 driver is just a work around and will always act like a 360 controller without some tweaking. Hope the link helps.

I looked at the page again and am not sure if it is quite what you want. I can try to dig some more on the interwebz.

This utility: http://betterds3.ciebiera.net/ looks good. It will still emulate the 360 controller, but it seems to have a good deal of customization.

ah, you see, this is my issue. i have heard of the motioninjoy piece... but i've also heard it has some security issue which makes win 8 somewhat open to attacks.
no idea how it effects win8.1, but i don't like to take that risk :)

Windows in general is open to attacks, LOL. Java which is one of the most used pieces of software has had major security glitches for years, yet people still use it daily. Have a firewall and a good AV and you are fine.

The one complaint I found is a guy that sounds like he knows just enough to be dangerous and probably just downloaded a trojan or already had a compromised system. A good majority of people on the internet blame things because they cant figure out the true problem since they lack the knowledge.

It's your system, so do as you like. Sony has decided they can't be bothered to offer official drivers, so use 3rd party utilities and a workaround with the 360 driver or use a 360 controller which would be less complicated. It's up to you.
