Overnight daft question number 2 - weapons types

Post by Dancamvet »

Having got a little more interested in builds and general evil, I have another daft question to pose to you all. This came about when I was outfitting my new Scryer and I ended up plumping for another "boring" AP build (for very good reasons - combining surgical strikes with heavy CritD). My pet project is to have a ship on my roster with each damage type, for various reasons involving fun and interest.

Here's the wiki numbers - http://sto.gamepedia.com/Ship_Weapon

I wanted to know what you thought of viability of the different weapons types for endgame PvE.

I know lots of people are fans of AP for the inherent crit bonus and plasma for the DoT but what do people make of the other types.

Are disruptors a good choice for a FAW build with Attack Pattern Beta for example?
Are phasers worthwhile or are they just "canon" (story as opposed to pewpew cannon)?
Are polaron weapons useful for energy drain builds or more generally?
Do tetryons do anything in PvE?
Obviously there's the special weapons types with other effects as well.

Discussion/comment/gut feelings/parsing info/opinions and everything inbetween welcome.

With that, good night for now (3.40am here)

As for Tetryon Builds, I loved my Tet build Ambassador Cruiser with 6 spec points in Flow cap. with fleet flow cap console and Leech console. If you have leech in mind, Tet or Pol are the way to go.

As for Dis, I liked Dis build along with Undine rep set.

Can you please explain why you think Tet or Pol are the way to go with Leech? I have used both Rommie Plasma and Advanced Fleet AP with Leech and they work well. I would argue they are the most effective period. That being said, you are right about having 6 points in flow caps and Embassy consoles to take full advantage of Plasmonic Leech.

Tetryon weapons can be cool, but the bonus from tet is nonexistent against unshielded targets. The synergy with Nukura rep items is nice. If you go tet though, the Omega set for tetryon glider works well with it.

Sure Leech works well with many other types of dmg as well and it's almost useless against non-shielded targets. But here is an old thread (so things might have changed significantly) which was from the 12th long before I joined the 12th, that helped me make that claim: http://forums.12th-fleet.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=12642

Plasma is what i prefer. It deals plasma burn directly to the hull obviously bypassing shields. Over time this can wear down your enemy. Combine with Embassy consoles, Romulan Experimental Beam Array and Zero Point Conduit for added damage.

Plasma is all around effective. I did get better dps numbers in my Avenger using Fleet Advanced AP though. That being said, the Embassy consoles really do make a plasma build work very well. Making sure your weapons have the right modifiers on them also makes a big difference.

Presuming here the right modifiers are crit ones as opposed to Acc and Dam

I was a big Tetryon fan, besides the fact that they're blue, the idea of removing shields as quickly as possible seemed like a good tactic.

However, on my FAC I have a full tetryon build, flowcaps up over 200, Omega set for the glider, two embassy consoles, the Nukara set items plus the added enhancements from the 2 piece Apex set and it still didn't really do a lot.

It might work better on a science ship, but from my experience you really can't see a difference in taking down shields compared to an escort just pounding away.
