EC alone won't cut it in the upgrade system, you need hundreds of thousands of dilithium. Believe me, I've put 100's of millions of EC into it already and dil is the major stumbling block, particularly with rarity upgrades.

Exactly right. The rarity upgrade cost is significantly greater than anything else. Part of the reason why i'm a fan of the mk 2 upgrade idea because you've got a better shot at nabbing a rarity upgrade on the cheap.

My suggestion is drip feed your upgrades. Decide in advance how much dilithium you're going to spend per day/week and stick to it.

I would also note as well that upgrading to mk14 or epic does not give you an auto win. You will gain a little ground but it's not going to turn you into an uber god. You've still got set your ship up sensibly and play intelligently.

Heh, I'm sure it isn't.

You do see some... questionable decision making here and there though. Particularly in PuG queues when you sit there thinking, "How can you think that was the right/appropriate thing to do in that situation?"

The more I read, the more I understand that the gear upgrade system was primarily a cash grab by "whomever" owns this game.

The thing is, is that I could tolerate a slow grinding upgrade system if there wasn't such an element of randomness to it all. Yeah, grinding out Mk II weapons for the best mods is... something... but even then, you gotta keep doing it over and over to get them to epic whilst still retaining your mods of choice. It's not a fun way to craft or upgrade, and it's totally killed off any desire I have of upgrading my alts (five of which I played as much as my main).

For me EC is the problem not dill. Running two missions over 10mins gives the parts to craft experimental tech and gives 2k dill enough to use on the upgrade. For every experimental tech I earn 2k dil to use with the tech. It take 2 or 3 days of refining to upgrade one consoles to gold.

With experimental tech if you are mega, super unlucky it takes 40k dill max to get 1 console from very rare to gold. But that’s next to impossible you almost always do it in fewer than 20k often under 10k dill.

I definitely agree with that. The element of random chance is something I have found annoying. This is part of the reason i've not pushed very hard with gear upgrades.
