Considering joining

I'm looking for a fleet with mature people, where you don't have to spend 40 hours each week in game.
I'm going to do both PVP/PVE, not really much into heavy RP, ranks, etc.. Did I come to the right place?

I'm 26, from Norway and major Star Trek / Sci-fi nerd
Also played WOW and EVE online for a couple of years).

You need to decide which 'branch' you want to be in - tactical, engineering, maco, exploration etc.

I'm sure that one of the Admirals will place you in tha appropriate squad soon.

What is the difference between 'Tactical' and 'MACO'? and what is up with 'Intelligence' and 'Exploration'?

I'm pretty sure exploring will be a big part of the game no matter what "class" you are.

In Wow, I was healer (did all instances/raids up to Kara, but left afterwards).. in EVE i was drones/tank/dsp.

I could see myself doing tactica/dps or science (healing,CC, buffs).. but I'll have to wait until the game actually comes to be sure

Nice to meet you, I'm Aleks. I was minmatar in EVE and mainly dealt with hit and run type tactics so intelligence felt like a better fit for me because I like small heavy hitting ships and want to deal with the espionage & spying side of things.

Tactical is more focused on space ship v ship combat (namely pvp) where MACO is traditional more ground based offense but still combat minded. Science will definitely be more of a support role and intelligence will be more a fleet escort and combat reserves/support role. Hope that helps clear things up. Hope you decide to join the fleet. I have just been here a short while and really enjoy the people and you'll have plenty of EU mates to play with in game and chat with until launch.

I don't think the combat will be nearly as elaborate in STO as it is in Eve, with all the intel, trapping, gate camping, strategy, etc.. Will espionage, spying and recon missions be a part of STO like it is in Eve?

Regarding Tactical vs MACO, I was under the impression that most missions in STO will be a combination of Space combat + ground combat? So will it be possible to specialize in one of them?

I'm not sure about the ability for espionage in STO, I'm sure hoping it's somewhat of the same degree as EVE. Maybe watered down a bit but it adds a lot of dimensionality to the game I believe.

I'm sure the missions will involve some of both but people in our MACO division may spend their skill points towards something ground combat based where tactical would be more willing to dump those points into their ship, if that makes sense.

No other MMO's at the moment. I abandoned EVE. Playing some XBOX360 games and Command & Conquer and Rome: Total War. What about you ?
