Yeah my friends said after seeing it in IMAX for a second showing they were disappointed that they had not done it that way in the first place.Torp wrote:Wow it's pretty clear some people really love this movie. I just changed my mind, I don't need to see this movie soon.. I need to see this as soon as possible in 3d IMAX

Wow, I really didn't want to see it all that bad. The wife does though. Someone compare it to the new Star Trek movie for me. Better yet, everyone compare it for me!
Thanks!

Re: Avatar *no spoilers*
Two different movies, Avatar pretty clearly has a political message to it, while Star Trek was meant to be a sexier, rock & roll, reboot to kick start the franchise again. Both very good, but very different in scope.

Re: Avatar *no spoilers*
That's what I don't like about Avatar. I don't want a political statement disguised (however thinly) as the greatest special effects movie to date. Looking back on Star Wars, the story was pretty darn basic, but what a great flick in it's day! That's why I go to see sci-fi, not for political education.Mjollnir wrote:Two different movies, Avatar pretty clearly has a political message to it, while Star Trek was meant to be a sexier, rock & roll, reboot to kick start the franchise again. Don't misunderstand me, there's nothing basically wrong with a political message. My problem is that once you remove the political message from Avatar, there's probably nothing left of this movie. That's my fear of spending my money. I also go to the movies seldom. I have a budget and I must pick my expenditures wisely. Therefore, seeing Avatar at full price depends on whether I think I'd truely enjoy it or regret the cost.
Star Trek, one the other hand, what a cool flick. Well worth the big-screen experience. Thought provoking without taking sides.
Also waffling on Sherlock Holmes, which the wife also wants to see. I expect that one is better on the small screen, value and cost-wise speaking.

Sherlock Holmes has Robert Downey Jr. that guy turns bad movies into great movies. Take your wife, make her happy.

Although he was a bad guy in Wierd Science. Believe it or not, Bill Paxton was better than RDJr, IMO. I don't even like Bill Paxton, except in True Lies, which I thought was his climax as an actor (no visual pun intended).LordOfMadness wrote:Sherlock Holmes has Robert Downey Jr. that guy turns bad movies into great movies. I think you've talked me into the fix to my dilemma. Holmes it is, provided the wife is agreeable.

Acceptable. It was a bit part. His character was gung-ho and not very smart. Pretty basic stuff. Loved the movie though. Great follow up to a classic.Mjollnir wrote:What about his role in Aliens?
