Well the boarding crews kind of act like a debuff, considering cruisers have the largest crews they would be best at performing that action.
The Exalibur in its new ships of the line article actually sounds like it is a a buffer. It can transfer shield power and crew to other nearby ships it sounded like. It itself repairs extra super fast or something like that as well.

transfer shield power? , thats pretty cool if most of the cruisers can do this then cruiser sounds pretty fun still a toss up ive i go cruiser or science open beta will tell
Maybe it will be possible to kind of make a hybrid. It sounds like the three career paths are not cookie cutter and you will be able to mix and match traits from different branches. I know I plan to be a medical/special ops sort of officer.

Ive been following this game awhile alot longer then any other game i first heard about before it got dropped by who ever first had the idea i have no clue who it was then i started really following it after it got picked up again by cryptic prolly the top in my list for anticipated games
