I feel that in the US, mental healthcare has declined to such a degree that people who need help don't get it, and it's a trend that has continued for several years now. I like how Canada has a mental health eval built into the purchase of a gun. I think that the US needs to enforce that rule, its cursory at best currently, and the dis-qualifiers are extremely narrow. People who would have a mental health history don't have one because of the decline in government health coverage of mental patients, and secondly, the lack of a history occurs and they're able to skirt around the questions. I think one of the major things the US needs to do is to increase spending in healthcare coverage of mental healthcare. Notice I don't call it a disease, as its not. It's a medical condition and should be treated better than it is. I used to work direct care for developmentally delayed and other forms of mental impairment individuals. My wife currently works in that field. We are both disgusted by the lack of proper healthcare for these individuals whose only problem was being born with their condition. I don't think all the insanity pleas are valid, and quite a few are proven otherwise, which is good. But the ones who truly suffer from Schizophrenia or any of the other markers could have been prevented with proper medical treatment in specialized environments, such as counseling, group homes (NOT INSTITUTIONS), possibly with some medications monitored by trained professionals. We have so many people that aren't being properly cared for due to the lack of medical coverage/spending that its turned into a problem.
I won't say this is the answer for all mass shootings, but I think it would help cut down on them. Remove the guns from those who aren't mentally stable enough to own them and provide proper medical care and environments for those individuals who have those conditions. You'll remove the threat before it begins in most cases.

Has that been proven or still speculation? last I heard they suspected links to Islamic Extremism but nothing definitive yet. I read that the the male of the pair was at a work holiday party, there was an argument and he left and came back with his wife and 2 assault rifles and 2 semi-automatic hand guns.Hatch wrote:This was totally about ISIS inspired Extreme Islamic Terrorism.
I don't think anyone should jump to conclusions just because they were Muslim.
