Re: Paramount Invites “Star Trek Beyond” Fan Creator to Pitch TV Series
Ok this may be an unpopular opinion but I'm not looking forward to this. Look what happened when they decided to go back to the beginning, we got the Akira-prise show.
I think Trek should be about expanding forward into the universe not going back so that they have the chance to give a little nod to future events.
Set your series in an all new scenario and, if the writing is good, the viewing public will make their mind up. Hire some great writers, don't go near Rick Berman and keep the studio execs out of creative decisions and it should all work out fine.

Re: Paramount Invites “Star Trek Beyond” Fan Creator to Pitch TV Series
Mixed feelings on this from me.
I am intrigued that a "Fan" has gotten a toe in the door. However, as others have variously pointed out the pitch is not to CBS it's to Paraborg. So it's hard to tell what the point is--since my understanding is that they are essentially two completely different organizations who own separate I.P. Rights (Television and Film respectively).
Now, that said, in the interview Michael Gummelt, the writer of uncharted, states that the target would be Premium Cable. Which, I feel could make some sense and might be easier to pull off.
As to the era it's set in, it sounds like it could be nestled twixt TOS and TNG (placing it within the relative domain of the later TOS FIlm series, which could give some additional credence to this going through Paraborg perhaps).
According to the article, Gummelt has Trek-related work published (ST VOY: Elite Force), which may give him more chops than a person off the street, though Video Games and TV shows are different media. He also apparently dropped out of Film School, based on the article anyway, so I don't know that-that helps him unless he has created some fan films or something--but he claims to be an aspiring filmmaker so maybe he has.
I don't know--not having read the pitch, and with few details to go on from the interview it's difficult to say if I "Like" the concept or not. But we may be due for a new Trek Series... Those who know me already know what I think that should be, but hey I have yet to have CBS (or anyone), come knocking at my door to say;
"Hey QorDaq, we're in a jam can you tell us what the best idea is for the next Trek Series?"
When they do, I'll give 'em an earful.
maj!

I'm pretty sure that if there's a new Star Trek show, it's going to be in the JJ-verse.
For one simple reason:
- Date of last non-JJ ST series or movie: 2005
- Date of last JJ-verse movie: 2016 (and possibly more)
The studio will go with the most recent iteration of the franchise, because that is what most people will recognize and they want to make the most money they can off brand recognition.
So any rumor to the contrary I can't take seriously until I see something concrete.

I don't really care who makes it or what is made as long as it has a good quality and is fun to be watched. I longe for a new Trek series, it has been far, far too long since Voy.

I think you missed one series. I tend to do the same 'mistake' myselfEldiora wrote:I don't really care who makes it or what is made as long as it has a good quality and is fun to be watched. I longe for a new Trek series, it has been far, far too long since Voy.

I read through his website and honestly I'm not very impressed with how the series would go. If the pitch would follow the same premise as that whose to say, but if it does I personally think it will end up being worse than Enterprise which I was a fan of once it started picking up, which for me as the end of the first season.

Re: Paramount Invites “Star Trek Beyond” Fan Creator to Pitch TV Series
I'd love to see a new Trek series myself, but only if it were set sometime after Voyager. I'm more interested in what happens after Voyager returns home, than say stuff previous. Star Trek is all about moving forward, and I think any new series needs to focus on that.
