I never speak out about anothers play style but I think your missing the point of an mmo. Yeah there's grinding but overall its about people, fleets exist just for this point to gather together and have fun. If its about nothing bit reaching that next hurdle and never having changes...a console game might be a better fit IMO.

Also sorry about posting over and over but its hard to post multiple quotes from my phone lol
No I don’t log in just for the grind. But the old system gave me a reason to log in every day. Removing those reasons will mean I will only log in a few times a week. So the idea of the devs to improve log ins will have the opposite effect and make me log in less.
...I got to say it...I'll be your reason to log in. My talaxians pretty face :)

But I can understand your point here. I have been knocking around the idea of more fleet based events. We have a few sporaticly but I've been thinking of trying to get some support for a weekly event. (I did previously try with a battleground battle group but we lettered out after a few weeks.) Would that give you more incentives to log on?

Umm well duh if I posted on sto forums or /r/sto the trolls would attack. At least here I can get all the viewpoint ts and there is the "your my fleet...you have to be nice to me" lol

It's probably me, but I'm not sure how you reach that conclusion.

As harsh as it sounds, by invalidating last years currency, anyone who wants the new ship they release this year will have to log in to the game at least 20 times during the 30 day event. (My numbers there might be a bit off, but it should work to illustrate my point.)

As much as there is a massive post complaining about this change, full of people saying that they will not do the event this year, the majority of people, even those who lost a bunch of pearls, will probably complete the event for the new ship.

Given that the log in metrics are most likely tracked at the account, rather than the character level, the change they've made should at a minimum flatten out the dip that the previous system would most likely lead to.

So instead of logging in 30times like a large group of players did, there is no point in logging in more than 20 times now. If it’s tracked per account then overall metrics go down by 33.3%. My logic is that many people played all 30 days either just with the main or spread over alts. Now there is no point going past 20 days. That's a large drop in metrics and a large drop in logins.

cryptic has a long sordid history of these types of actions and community reactions.

1. exploration mark conversion. when this happened cryptics first attemp was "we're getting rid of all marks in order to simplify in-game currency." community backlash ensued. about a week later cryptic "we'll give you fair market value and a special bridge officer." and another backslash this time from individuals that slashed and burned their marks and basically got screwed over twice. then we get our dilithium system.

2. Delta Rising. tribble tester told cryptic flatly that the xp leveling curve was extremely high for the amount of missions that were due to come out and that you were not earning enough xp to get to the next mission. no response. DR went live, some people found that doing mission (X) gave better xp for the time invested, cryptic then went "if your having xp issues do mission (X)." days later cryptic came out screaming "your a bunch of cheaters! nerf, nerf, nerf."

3. dilithium event. basically (maynot explain this well) anything that gave out dilithium ie missions doffs, and so on would payout more dilithium. well it also worked with converting marks into dilithium..... annnnnd cryptic went ballistic.

so in short either through cryptics incompetence or ignorance they bring a lot of the backlash on themselves and blaming your customers is the dumbest idea in the world especially in todays market of social media.

1 angry customer costs your 20 paying customers.
1 angry customer with an internet connection costs your 2,000 paying customers. maybe more

I remember this. Was not opposed to it.

Unfortunately it did not last very long: Omega marks, Nukara marks, Romulan marks, Dyson marks, Counter-command marks, Delta marks, Iconian marks with no end in sight...

Cryptic has always sucked at communicating what they want and implementing it in a player friendly way. It always goes "this is what we're going to do" followed by player outrage then "this is why we're going to do it" which is too late because the players are already pissed off.

I was here for these two. The first, we are talking about the rom patrol missions. I actually did partake of these to level Seraph. I didn't understand what was going on till after the upset began. I figured that as it went on for so long that it was OK. That was the only problem I had with the fallout. Did not enjoy being called a cheater when a. Everyone (or at least a good % of players) was doing and b. They waited so long to shut down I actually assumed it was supposed to be like that. Like an incentive to do patrol missions. When that one Dev came back from vaca nd apologized for the other devs remarks I was OK.

As for the second. I wouldn't say cryptic went ballistic, that was the players. Many were turning in creds and cryptic was like "oh...didn't mean those." And fixed it. They only got upset after the player base did. Who was right in that argument... No idea. But I'm of the thought that sometimes mistakes are made and when corrected we should not grab our torches and Pitchfork's.

Just came across some upset people who spent real money on the currency to buy new ships and are pissed off that the real money has been wasted as they cannot use it on new ships.
