It's still technically a phase 2 movie, and he isn't getting a phase 3 sequel, isn't appearing in Civil War, and isn't even confirmed for Infinity War, and it's been hinted he didn't get a big 6 movie deal like the main avengers did.
No reading will ever really be required.
They are rebooting the entire comic universe to make it "similar" to the movies and make it easier to follow. They are destroying the 616 universe and the Ultimate universe.
Smart business choice but it's a let down to all older fans.

Which essentially changes the story concept for Ultron, from the Oedipus complex to the Frankenstein complex. Considering the current vibe in culture is "the machines are going to take over some day" it makes kinda sense.
The sensei/bright student trope in the Pym/Antman new relationship is interesting and feeds into the same Frankenstein complex. So you can have evil Yellow Jacket the evil creation/student of Pym face off against good Antman, the good creation/student of Pym. And so on.
It's marketable at least, but you wonder what will they do with the Wasp? Princess to be rescued by knight/student hero?

Thanks to the internet, they will. The advertising agency or Marvel themselves would either make phony reports of the billboards to various media (local news would do something, but national news would let a local campaign work on a national scale, and of course the real goal is getting it on the fan sites and blogs where the cleverness will be best appreciated) if they went unnoticed for a while, and the internet takes over from there.
