Another possibility is that, if it gets some people back playing again, even for the event, the servers are busy again, which is good for the game. For an MMO, players are game content: busy servers provide a sense of community and a crowd of people to see you go by with the kewl things you have.Allegiance86 wrote: Some people believe this is an attempt to pull in new Gamers but I really dont see that as the case. Unless someone new just happens upon these blogs or creates an account just in time for the event. Theres really nothing about this event that will be pulling new players to the game.
I feel this event is more of an attempt to fill another metric goal PWE has set down for Cryptic. By now they must be seeing that many Players have abandoned and deleted alts left and right. This could harm their bottom line since players on alts may be tempted to spend money to get their alts on par with their Mains.
This may also be a means to draw old players and players that recently walked away with DR back to the game.
Either way its another short gap measure to keep the game from sinking any farther. They may be seeing spike purchases around ship releases and even the lockbox/R&D boxes. But something tells me these spike sales are just that. With no sustainment over the life of these offers. They immediately drop off and probably flatline rather quickly.

I want to see what these 'bonuses (if any)' are.
One thing I did with my last alt that was kind of fun was to bankroll that toon with resources and crafting from the other ones. Started the toon off with MkII VR gear, then upgraded it and expanded on it as the toon levelled up.

Yep, I'm in, I'll be making a slave while my main slaughters aliens in the Delta Quadrant... ahem, I mean a farmer to aid my main defending the Alpha Quadrant.

There is very little about this game that actually resembles an MMO in the traditional sense. Single Player game with Multiplayer aspects is a better description for STO. The few places you run into other players theres little to no interaction with each other.Pip wrote:Another possibility is that, if it gets some people back playing again, even for the event, the servers are busy again, which is good for the game. There has been plenty of events over the last 5 months that have seen bumps in player activity. They have no increased any sense of community. This will be no different. This is Cryptic putting another bandaid on a gapping wound.

The new blog post seems to lay out where the reward unlocks are, at least (still not what they actually are of course):
Levels 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50
Level 1 and 5 in any single R&D school
Special new objectives on mission maps
In addition to the ship trait we already knew about for the event campaign.
The first post sounds like there's time gating on the event campaign (they make it sound similar to the episode-per-week thing from the original FEs), but other than that, sounds like something you could knock out in a good weekend more than a month long side project.

Re: Delta Recruitment Event
There was also mention of Fleet action after reaching level 30. Still acting as a newb, I gotta ask. If I create a new character for this event, when he/she reaches level 30, can I bring that character into our fleet? Do I have to go thru the application process again with this new character? What are members of Command considering for this event? Is the Game gonna make members create new fleets geared specifically for this event or are present fleets gonna have to meet new requirements for it? So many questions, so little time...
