Account Security

Post by Dancamvet »

Hi guys,

Just a friendly (and likely pointless) reminded about account security. Remember to rotate your passwords (and shield harmonics) every so often and employ additional security as needed.

I had my Origin account broken into and about £100 of charges added, fortunately Origin Help were very good and have instigated refunds for all the fraudulent transactions and I have had to cancel the credit card attached to the account through my bank.

Fortunately I tend to keep an eye on accounts and headed it off quickly so hopefully no damage done.

That sucks but glad you got it sorted, although I wondering what's worth spending £100 on, on Origin ;)

Indeed, someone bought FIFA 2014 and Assassin Creed Unity on my account. I believe this picture sums up how I feel about those games.

I've also activated secondary authentication on my accounts now so they'll now also need to break into different email accounts and my mobile as well. The price of security I suppose...

If that was Steam, they would not help. They would simply copy and paste their no refunds policy and leave you with all those games and a £100 dent in your bank account.

Quite possibly, I read your epic with Steam. Seemed to be very poor customer service.

I will give EA/Origin their due, I requested an adviser to get onto Chat to help with the problem, he arrived in 5 mins and had it sorted after 15 mins (including security check and account recall) and my account showed the refunds pending shortly after. Was pleasantly surprised by the quick response.

Just have to wait for me new credit card to come next week now... I only use the 1 card for all my online stuff (credit because of fraud protection) and now it's cancelled there's no way i can be charged.

Joaking aside, I am glad you didn't have the Steam experience Proto had!

What a coincidence, my Battle.net account was hacked or at least attempted hack this morning. They requested a password change and i received the email a few minutes ago.

A last update to this one. Received conformation of the refund of the cash spent by whoever decided I needed FIFA 14 and AC: Unity in my life. All in all very impressed with the response from EA/Origin, No dramas, got it sorted for me with minimum fuss. Props to my bank also for being on the ball with the credit card anti-fraud protection.

Could've been much worse.
