Heritage Trivia
So to say this, I am actually not purely American, I am a mutt they say. I have more British in me thanks to my rich English heritage, and somewhat relation to a former queen of England. and partly I guess because people say I have a British accent. But it's a difficult to tell with my speech impediment. Any who, I'm also half Scottish because my ancestors are Scottish, including my great great great great great grandfather, General James Robertson, who took part in a revolution in Scotland and also finding Nashville, Tennessesse. But, enough of my heritage, what about you guys? Oh and I'm 10% Canadian, 8% German and 4% Cherokee.

Re: Heritage Trivia
Half Scottish, quarter English (shh Goldy
) and a quarter Chinese. Supposedly with some imperial blood. Who knows if that's true
. Apparently the family is still rather important in the ancestral village in China. And no, I don't speak any Chinese dialects. Sadly my Grandfather didn't see fit to pass on the knowledge.

Re: Heritage Trivia
My racial heritage is pretty straightforward.
On my father's side, my ancestors, who came from France, have been here long enough to say I'm as close to being a native Canadian without having native blood.
On my mother's side, they've immigrated later, but not that much, from Scotland.

Re: Heritage Trivia
I have a German last name. Both of my parents have/had German ancestry and German last names. I was born in the US. My Great Great Grandmother moved here from Germany on my Dad's side. I do not know when my Mom's family came over here from Germany. I'm basically just American with German heritage.

Re: Heritage Trivia
From what I know is that my last name is rather common to say the least. What I do know is that it is German and used to be longer.

Re: Heritage Trivia
I have heard many "foreign" names get changed when people came over. My name is the same with the exception of no longer having the umlaut.Alexandria wrote:From what I know is that my last name is rather common to say the least. Re: Heritage Trivia
It was not much. I think it may have been a letter or two difference. One of my cousins knew that information. All I know is a certain percentage of my heritage is German.

Re: Heritage Trivia
I have always wondered how many generations your family ancestry would have to exist in America before you were considered a true Native American. I know that sounds very silly, but my ancestry dates back to the second supply to Jamestown and the Pilgrims that came over with the Mayflower. My father's mother's family would be considered the newcomers leaving Scotland after the Revolutionary War and before the Civil War. My Grandmother claimed to have a half Potawatomi Grandmother in her linage. When I look at pictures of the Potawatomi descendants in Oklahoma I see a lot of similar features that my Grandmother had. The only problem is we can't prove Grandma's Native American heritage.
OK so the biggest thing, and my mother uncovered this last year or so, apparently my mother and my father are 7 and 8 cousins removed... I am related to myself. >.<

Re: Heritage Trivia
That's a funny thing, Kenna, and I'm not making this up, but on my dads side up the family tree I have great great great great grandparents that were on the mayflower as well.

100% Scottish born and bred (I see you Sabbot
)
Seemingly I'm descended from clan Campbell on my fathers side, and clan MacKenzie on my mothers side. That's 2 pretty big clans...
