The 12th Fleet: Starbase Valhalla

I have heard from many Sources that there have been some pretty hefty Layoffs at Both Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment Today.

We (my Friends and I) do not know the extent of the layoffs, and by that I mean what teams were affected and for how long.

Just letting you know, and before anyone says it. We do not know the cause of this. It was not Specifically STO. Please don't turn this into a Rant about STO or a DOOM Thread.

Sad to Say it has been confirmed we will be Losing Captain Smirk our STO Community Manager.

I don't know what you expect Primar.

I don't have any friends at Cryptic or PWE. I don't really like Smirk and it's mutual since he dislikes PvP'ers.

Layoffs are pretty common in the industry. Hopefully they will hire new people because right now the game needs some new people working on it.

Video game turnover is always crazy high, but so far it sounds like the bulk of this is hitting PR and community end people and not developers. Cryptic's PR sucks anyway, and their current community manager is mediocre at best. They might be shooting themselves in the foot, but it's not the one they stand on.

Lets hope theyre cleaning house because theyre tired of the back to back mishaps coming out of PR and Community Managers area.

For months now these people have posted information that was outdated or flat out misinformation about things revolving around the game. Causing a lot of backlash with the playerbase. From my point of view they were simply dialing it in every day showing up for a paycheck.

Im not in the least bit torn up about Smirk getting the boot. The guy seemed standoffish as a 'Community Manager'. Seemed like he rarely showed his face anywhere but the PWE Twitch Channel.

As much as my personal sympathies goes out to those who lost their jobs, it is hard to over look the recent mis-information and player back stabbing propagated by them in the last few months. There are bugs, few fixes and granted that is to be expected. But PR was indeed a mishap, not caring about player base, not even veterans, has to catch up at some point.

Not surprising... The PR is horrible right now.

Seriously though, they deserve it. Anyone that comes up with DR and this new R&D debacle and then releases it saying it's the best thing to happen to the game needs to be shot in the face with a rusty salmon. Now they need to admit they sucked all this time, get someone in that actually knows what to do and start making a frickin' game. That's right, it's supposed to be FUN not a frickin' chore to log in everyday.

Yes i know it's not limited to STO but luckily that's the only game i play from them so i can't comment on anything other than STO.

Sad for the people that lost their job, but PR for STO was really bad...
