Apparently during an interview with P1 Gecko said this:

"We specifically ended the war between the Klingons and the Federation, so we wouldn't have to make content just for Klingons any more."

No being a fervent Klingon player, and the few Klingon alts I had being made useless by DR, all I've got to say is

How long ago was this statement made?

It would be the latest one, made today.

5 years of endless abuse ended.

Which pretty much secures me never wanting to return..

This isn't really a new statement, they said around the time of The 2800 that going forward content would be predominately faction agnostic. We got the first few remastered episodes as a side project, and most of the new Klingon content since then was to give them enough campaign for them to start at level 1 and still get through to the shared stuff.

I also deleted my KGH toon after DR, since it had been ages since I even played on it.

They have been saying that for years now. Sadly some of the best missions I've ever played came on the KDF side in season 2. Such a shame that some of that lock box money couldn't be put to better use. More people would play the KDF if they spent a little time polishing the flow of game play and improving the quality of the missions.

I have 5 KDF toons, DR has totally killed my time for alts anyway ... maybe that was the point of DR.
