Malware can play havoc with your pc even before getting to Windows.

I had one once that showed a government notice saying my pc was going to be siezed and the police were on their way. Yeah and i'm still at playschool :face:

I had a customer come into the shop who had that one. It said he had to pay a $500 fine in Ultimate Game Cards because he had kiddie porn on his computer. Which he did, so he paid the fine. Then when it didn't release his computer, he paid it again. Because **********er really wanted his child porn collection back.

I tried to explain to him that if the FBI wanted his computer, they would bust down the door and TAKE his computer, and that only the court can assess a fine, not the FBI itself, and when they do it won't be in the form of video game play money because you can't pay for government stuff with Microsoft points. This was met by a fifteen minute tirade about how they're chemtrailing his house and how the FBI sends dogs to poop on his lawn. I wasn't sure whether to call the police or the department of mental health.

People like that are why I'm glad this place is going out of business and I'll probably be working at ****ing PetSmart next month.

I ranted about crazy guy so much I forgot my point: Malware can kick in before windows starts (TDSSkiller in safe mode is the best way to catch that kind), but it can't kick in before post, so anything causing no post is going to be either BIOS or hardware related. If it's temporary, overheating is a likely culprit. First step would be to get some canned air and give it a thorough dusting.

Yes i've seen that before. Next door neighbour brought their pc round saying ti won't work, i cleaned it and it worked perfect. It was absolutely caked in dust and hairs. Surprising what a simple clean up (in this case it took an hour) can do.
