You will always have transwarp and some quick travels (and they may even sell quick travels things like the diplomatic transwarp thingys) but having things spread out to make it seem as if space is a lot bigger then it currently feels would be a welcome to me.
We can only hope that now that theyre knocking down the walls that theyll increase the distance between the systems.
nah it'll be the same distance. they just make you go slower and give it a higher number. warp 3 becomes the new warp 9

Now if sector space was a more dangerous place it would be more fun. Imagine having to plot a course to avoid known enemy hotspots or having to adjust your course because your helmsman just reported a solar storm or gravitational shift. Suddenly going from Sol to our Fleet SB would be part of the game rather than an inconvenience.

That's how i'd have it anyway.
+1 on this idea. Make the travel part of the game instead of just a long drag.

+1, i see engage enemy pop up all the time while traveling. It would be cool if they engaged us automatically, scaling by level etc.

They used to didn't they, may be it's my mind playing tricks on me, but I swear at the beginning they would auto engage if they ran into you. (this may well have been over 4 years ago).

I think you are right. I do remember this, especially when I was going to B'Tran to get my marks.

Add another +1. I'd like to be able to go somewhere in sector space and not shrink the game while I wait. I mean practically the entire Alpha Quadrant is at war I really doubt a ship can go halfway across the quadrant and have NOTHING happen to them. Plus in all the various series you see the ship get attacked or acted on by some space creature/phenomenon....how cool would it be to be flying through the quadrant when suddenly your ship is caught in a time loop or one of your crew develops strange powers and goes on a rampage, or you're set upon by a bunch of marauders/soldiers?! It'd really capture the feel of Star Trek, the venturing into the unknown.
