The article points to there being a new "Command" ship (such as the Intel t6 ships that we saw at the launch of Delta Rising). So, with that in mind, I wonder... for those of us with limited funding and having to choose what ships we buy, should I save my Zen for the launch of these Command ships (that may, admitedly, not launch for a few months) or should I go ahead and buy the Intel boat I want and kick myself when they do launch?!
Desicions, desicions.
I'd hang fire and see what this new command ship is like, then make an informed choice.
Exactly. There will likely be not that many Command ships and you might discover none please you.
I found the perfect ship for me (the Hazari destroyer) and I will probably not change for a while. I'll be new ships for the T5 mastery, but that's all.
More specs, more reps, more grind so we can fly new shiny ships that will still be outperformed by the scimitar in a game where dps is the only metric that counts on highend content

To be fair to them the new spec and ships is an attempt to give us good options away from pure DPS. The spec and new ships are about helping out the team without just dealing your own DPS. At a glance a team with the new spec and ships will do better then a pure DPS team.
I would honestly enjoy healing or tanking much more than DPS. When I first started STO I stuck with cruisers and tanking, but then the game turned into nothing but escorts, and now its mostly whoever can manage to stay alive and still do high damage, usually assault cruisers, heavy escorts, destroyers, and some science vessels. With some of the new traits and ships, I agree it seems they might be going towards a "holy quartet" with heals, control, tanking, and dps. That could just be wishful thinking, but I hope it isn't.
I don't see the move away from DPS anytime soon. These new specialization will just be taken to augment the DPS of the players.
Tanks, healers and debuffers are not useful in teams since NPCs don't use buffs and generally have too much damage to absorb or heal. It's more useful to go all damage and respawn when killed.
Every time that Cryptic has put a better AI on NPCs, so that CC and teamwork become important, the players have asked for it to be nerfed.
So don't hold your breath for a change, it won't happen because a lot of players don't want it.
