I think the studio was worried that it might have been a little bit too Star Trek-y.

When the Starkiller base fired and the scene panned to the back of Kylo Ren's head on the bridge. That was it.That provokes a ton of questions about what lessons JJ learned from his handling of Trek...or if he's getting a bad rap for lens flare and story structure the same way SOE once got a bad rap for the NGE in Star Wars Galaxies. I guess we don't ever really know who's pulling the strings, but the latest spat with the Axanar lawsuit is starting to show CBS and Paramount's true colors.
