Some initial impressions of the Presidio-class Tactical Command Battlecruiser:

Design-wise it looks like a bit of a kit-bash. The secondary hull reminds me of the Excelsior, the quad nacelles remind me of the Dakota-class, and the pointed primary hull reminds me of the Intrepid-class. Overall, I'd say it looks pretty good: looks unique, but also looks like a Fed starship should.

In terms of how it plays, I find the turn rate to be mercifully better than the Oddy I used to fly.

The bridge is a let-down: it appears we're given the standard bridge layout everybody gets: the same one that you get on the Miranda. Lame.

Still testing the Universal it comes with, the Defense Platform. On paper it looks pretty good: it has two phaser beam arrays and it spams mines. As you might expect, however, it dies quickly, either due to FAW from players or from the AI (which presumably sees it as a threat).

The Presidio class sorta brings this ship to mind when I see it.

Been a long since I've played Armada 2 (well a unmodded version.) and imo they do have a fair bit in common.

To me it looks like they tried to refit the chimera with a excelsior style secondary hull.

I guess I'd rather fly the excelsior class.

That design is based off the Pheonix as well.

I picked up the Romulan Tactical version. I like it well enough so far. Just wish the boff stations were more geared towards Tact since it's a Tactical version of the ship. Also wish that I understood that in order to make your ship look different, you have to buy multiple ships.

That's how they get you to buy the full pack ;)

The more I use the Presidio the more I love it. I gained over 15k dps so far over my other crusiers and can get more out of it. Pretty sure with a few tweaks it can break 40k dps as a torp boat.

Fuzzymodem, the guy who made this submission for the DTNE contest, posted on the Penny Arcade forums confirming that his design was the base for these. Cryptic contacted him about it, and he got some money and Cryptic got his original design in consideration for the 2016 Ships of the Line calendar.
