If I may, try not to see the specs as something "you have to work on". Just keep playing and check specialization once in a while, there'll be a few points and you could "treat" yourself to some bonuses!
My minimum play is making daily dilithium, rest just comes along with it.

I gave up the grind ages ago. I just play. So much more fun.

I really think this is an honest attempt to give us long term goals that are not artificially gated. But, as you all know by now; I am the consummate optimist on these things. The game has only been around for 5 years, and it's seen a lot of changes (Some good some questionable). I think that this is a good one and hey, at least it does not cost Dilithium to level up Specializations!
As to the Command Specialization itself, one of those long-term goals will be leveling it up so that we can send our BOffs to Command School...*Woot*...
maj!
Don't give them any ideas.
But yes, I just play as well, Spec is good as a bonus, and I don't care if I hit 40-75k DPS, I got above 10 and that was about all i cared about. I'm just having fun. My KDF luckily was an old schooler(started at lvl 20-22?, whater the level was back before you had to start at lvl 1), and had hit 50 before the hourly mirror event went away

, so I have lots of story missions to get to 60, Thankfully.
I really wish spec started at 40 but hey, it's a game and for end game stuff it's ok, instead of only being able to replay story missions, or STF's with no real reward. However, despite that, I'm just having fun playing and learning more about equipment and mechanics etc.

Regarding this, and any subsequent specs - what's the point in adding something that has no direct application to any content i.e. why do we need this?
I'm with the people now who are just past the point of wishing to grind, and just doing my best to have fun. I have seven spec points left to get (the rest were done in Tau Dewa)... to get them I'd have to Argala about 80+ times, and that's this weekend alone (double XP). Now when you factor in *another* specialisation, a full 30 points with no xp boost, it just makes me feel apathetic to the whole thing. I don't expect to earn things overnight, but c'mon!

You see, my problem is I want to play the game, but PvE bores me. It's fine once in a while with a group, but the only things that excites me is PvP.
And PvP requires me to grind all of the

Cryptic puts in the game just for my toon to stay competitive. Nobody else requires or needs these.
If it was not for the fact that this is the only MMO I can play for any lenght of time and that I have friends playing (althought most have gone) I would stop playing this game.

Also if you do the pve content in order to stay competitive then that doesn't leave a of of time left for pvp.
I find myself getting bored pretty quick now too. I just don't get the same enjoyment out of the game that i used to.

So, I like these fancy Command BOFF powers, but this has given me pause for thought.
The article points to there being a new "Command" ship (such as the Intel t6 ships that we saw at the launch of Delta Rising). So, with that in mind, I wonder... for those of us with limited funding and having to choose what ships we buy, should I save my Zen for the launch of these Command ships (that may, admitedly, not launch for a few months) or should I go ahead and buy the Intel boat I want and kick myself when they do launch?!
Desicions, desicions.

I'd hang fire and see what this new command ship is like, then make an informed choice.

I think we're better off playing SFC3.
