Our guys decided like the idea of a 'challenge' ladder, rather than a straight PVP. I'm OK either way... if we did it as a "Challenge" it would look like this...
The Iron Captain Event
So what is a Challenge Ladder? This is very much like any other ladder tournament, but in this case we trying to encourage A LARGE variety of interactions between our allies and friends from other fleets. Once a new challenge event is given by the tournament manager (TM) (examples could be PvP Space, PvP Ground, Shuttle Races, Tribble Tosses (or whatever else we decide to think of), the players have three weeks to resolve their challenges.
After the Challenge Event is over, the ladder is updated, rankings assigned, and then a new round begins!
CHALLENGE Ladder Rules
• This is for fun - so let's "play nice". This is the honor system - we will not tolerate lying, cheating or personal abuse of another STO community member (the one 'behind' the characters). Infractions of this first rule should be reported to the tournament manager or your fleet diplomatic department and will dealt with immediately.
• A player may challenge one or two spots up the ladder.
• If the challenger wins, outright or by forfeit, the two will switch places on the ladder
• Players will play no more than two matches at a time: one as a challenger, and one defending a challenge.
• If you challenge and win you will swap places other player. If a loss or draw (both players withdraw before a winner can be determined due to some unforeseeable circumstance), than there is no change.
The Iron Captain Challenge - Fleet Ladder Rules
• All PvP games are played in private PvP "challenge" areas. When a consensus on which map to use cannot be reached, the challenger may select the map.
• PvP Matches will be played until such a time until a player has five kills making him the winner.
• Failure to accept a valid challenge constitutes a forfeit
• A player cannot play consecutive matches against the same opponent
• When posting a valid challenge, please remind your opponent
(using @name to email from within STO - this will be called a "PM") which division (team/player) ladder the challenge is for. In the case of team matches, the team leader will be notified and responsible for communication with his team.
• If you will be unable to accept challenges for a period of time,
please schedule a vacation by PMing the ladder tournament manager (TM)
• Once a valid challenge has been made, the match needs to be completed within three days. The winning player reports the match results to the TM. In the case of a 'draw', then the higher 'rung' player reports to the TM.
• Match size: 1 on 1 (Player) PLEASE NOTE: There is a chance we may 'challenge' you to form a team of three (with you as the leader) for some special events. If so, the details will be provided at that time.
• New players enter at the bottom of the ladder.
• Any player is not on 'vacation" and who fails to respond to a valid challenge, will be removed from the ladder if no reply is received by within one week.
• While the ladder tournament is running, you must issue a challenge at least once every week.
Ratings
Ratings based on performance will be published for use in future tournaments using an ELO system.
• The TM's decision on all challenges and rule calls are final.
**************
So... For example,
Challenge 1 (first three weeks) could be a 1-on-1 PvP,
Challenge 2 (one week is off, then the second three more weeks) could be a shuttle race,
Challenge 3 (one week is off, then the third three more weeks) could be a ground death match with swords,
... and so on and on and on
Do you guys like this better, or do you want to keep it straight PvP. We thought this might provide more interactions for a broader group of STO activity. (meaning, its might get more players)
Thoughts?
