you say the cloud of white smoke disappears after you rev the engine. so my thoughts are it takes a while for the fuel to seep into the cylinder. my advice would be to let the car sit then do electrical connections. other wise you wont see which one it is due to all of them firing and removing the excess fuel.

Check the fuel or to be safe, drain the tank and refuel from a different site.
(Also call the station manager where you last purchased fuel and inquire about any other complaints.)

I know the diesel fuel here is Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel. Occasionally I hear of problems at the refinery where too much parraffin is added and it causes some strange problems with filters and engines.

Always good to check the tank for water also. Water is heavier than fuel so it will always be at the very bottom of the tank.

Good Luck.

Iv plugged a Bluetooth ODB reader into my car, im gonna use a few apps to record what the car is doing on my daily commute to see if I can find out what the car is doing.

The car seems to cough at nearly the same point on a road on my way back home from work, maybe these OBD apps can pick it up so I can turn round to the mechanics with some proof.

There is something you can check. Remove the air filter and check the arm on the top of the inlet manifold (inside) is still connected. This can cause problems and won't show a code. Also get a small piece of tissue and hold it around the gaskets from the air filter all the way to where the inlet manifold meets the cylinder head and get someone to rev the car. That will show any air leaks in the system. Make sure to check well around the turbo gaskets. Any leaking air isn't going in to the engine and if the car is getting an incorrect reading it will be injecting too much fuel which could cause the smoke and also the power loss. The incorrect fuel/air mix can also cause the starting issues.

Anything with the OBD reader???

I've heard that. There was a big thing quite recently here about supermarkets watering down their fuel with something and it was burning fuel faster and causing a lot of problems.

ODB hasnt shown anything yet,

However it has sparked my curiosity, when I first start the car from cold, the OBD reader says the car was at 60% load when idling, revving the car dropped the load down and when I stopped it rose again.
After returning home from driving around town, the car was idling at 30% load.

At the moment im monitoring Fuel Rail Pressures and comparing them to Intake manifold Pressures.

The app can record your journey and with the dials showing, so Im going to get a holster for my phone so I can record my journey home from work and see what is happening when my car Coughs.
