In the past many players would have spent every day or almost every day of the event earning rewards as you could spend the extra currency next year to get the ships early. Now there is no point in getting the extra currency so there is no point to keep playing after you have enough for the base ship.

Take me for example; I always spent every day of the event earning the currency. With the new changes why would I bother taking part in the event every day? If many players feel the same why Metric wise this change is going to have a massive decrease in the amount of players, playing the new content. The very opposite to what the devs changes are meant to do. The devs don’t seem to have thought this out very well.

A good example is the snowman lane event last Winter event. Most players only played it just enough to get the minimum amount needed then after that the player drop off was massive. I can see the same thing happening with the new currency.
If the ship cost the same currency, you're just moving the grind from one year to another. You play more one year, less the other. With the new system, you grind equally every year.

I still fail to see the problem.

I merely dont like the fact that Cryptic have offered us something and then stated that we are not playing EXACTLY the way they want us to play, and then making changes to enforce what they want, so it makes their numbers look good.

If you ever watch the TV show "Bridezillas" you know exactly what I mean... If not, Google it.

I think this my primary issue. I don't remember them actually saying this. If I remember right during the second event we were like "woot we can use last years!" And so we did and then we got the discount on top of this and the player base got...i don't know..I guess entitled might be the best word. And now that they are switching everyone is upset they are changing a tradition that was not something expressly given to the players.

Yet again they are being nice enough to give a store for those players who did expect this tradition to continue. They could have done nothing.

I am wondering if its a problem with previous mmo experience versus f2p. We all have these expectations of MMOs to take care of us because previous MMOs with subscriptions would because we were giving them a steady stream of income with little need for variance. Everyone who played eq/wow/swg/daoc/etc played the same game and had the same experiences with things being added BECAUSE the players were paying for the same thing. But now with a f2p model they have to be varied in everything they do. Not everyone wants a pilot ship. Not everyone buys keys. So to make money they must continually do what they can to make their income. New ships, new items, and they must continually change things to not only to attract a possible new player base (is delta recruits) but also keep interest of former players. I for one was becoming bored prior to delta rising..yaay I'm going to do infected space for some marks...

I've been keeping it in this whole time but hey I'm going to say it. delta rising is the best expansion ever and I love it! OK that's a lie I did like rommy better but its top 2.

To go along with my earlier idea. I am wondering because subscription based games are all mostly going f2p, will future generations of players being saying things like this or will they see it as normal?

But that’s not what happens for many players. We didn’t play more one year, less the next. We played the same every year but built up a stack of currency to use in the future. In the past I had a reason to log in every day of the event. Now why would anyone bother to log in every day of the event?

Or to put it another way with the change I will be grinding less every year now. Logging in less every year. Surly that will make the matrics even worse. With the change my logging into the game will drop an estimated 25% year in, year out. Many players will fall into the same group.

Umm because its fun to kill snowmen with snowballs and interact with other players outside of the everyday grind...rp and just sociality..that's what its there for, the ship is just a bonus

Exactly my point, managing community expectation and communication.... I think part of the reason people are struggling with this is they're not gettin why the changes are being made. It makes Cryptic/PWE seem bad because they're not 100% clear about what they're doing.

When people get something other than what they expected (even if what they get is actually better for many reasons) they tend not to like it. Trust me, I got it all the time in clinical practice. It's called "managing expectations" and its the most important skill you learn.

You see for me, DR is the worst, followed by Romulus. The amount of grind and unbalanced mechanics introduced into the game with these 2 expansions is staggering. It's after the Rommie expansion that I started playing less and less. DR actually killed 99% of my play time. I've tried to start playing again but I just can't make myself do it. Now I log in only if there's a special event (like the Tac Squad of the Month).

I'm betting it's going to be seen as normal. It's already happening now. Some people expect to grind 2h per night and anyone not liking it they call 'entitled'. :face:

Whoa whoa whoa...if I'm understanding your point correctly you only log in to complete the grind? Usually the criticism I hear is sto is too Grindy... I never speak out about anothers play style but I think your missing the point of an mmo. Yeah there's grinding but overall its about people, fleets exist just for this point to gather together and have fun. If its about nothing bit reaching that next hurdle and never having changes...a console game might be a better fit IMO.

Also sorry about posting over and over but its hard to post multiple quotes from my phone lol

OK I do hope we continue this discussion. I started it because I was curious about the other viewpoints I was not seeing. But I can see how this might upset someone if read the wrong way so I just want to reiterate this is just a discussion and I hope no one becomes upset at anyone's point of view. I am mearly finding this interesting and am trying to understand everyone's viewpoints please do not take my comments to be negative in any way.

No I don’t log in just for the grind. But the old system gave me a reason to log in every day. Removing those reasons will mean I will only log in a few times a week. So the idea of the devs to improve log ins will have the opposite effect and make me log in less.
