Tease of upcoming event

I suspect, that this will be an early step towards setting up the story for the next major expansion sometime down the line.

Much as the Dyson gates have opened up a way to visit the the Delta Quadrant, the wormhole was always meant to serve as a gate to the Gamma Quadrant in the interest of story telling.

I continue to predict that access to stories in Gamma via the wormhole along with the introduction of the Cardassians (or Cardassians with/ or as part of the Dominion), is likely something we will see in the next year or two.

We'll see.

At the very least, it's good to see some content focusing on other parts of the galaxy map again... With so many FE's revolving around Tau Dewa, Dyson, and now Delta, it'll be nice to have a reason to go elsewhere for a bit--my crew could use a change of scenery...*Chuckle*...

I don't think about that when I first saw it but you could be right, if there is a way to bring the eye back to Alpha Quadrant but more to a setting that would make sense to add Cardassians to the game this could be the start of it.

As much as I hate how much Cryptic doesn't seem to care about any faction other than the Federation I think I'd still like to play a Cardassian one.

That's possible too. Certainly the Devs have discussed it, and based on the Poll Cryptic conducted years ago, when asked about the "Next" preferred playable faction; the Community at the time said Romulan, Cardassian, Borg, in that order... We got Romulans first.

Another Poll asked which series Fans wanted more content from, and Voyager won hands down. So I suspect that those early Polls helped inform the long-view goals for STO.

Considering that Borg were on the list, and also taking into account that there is now a Borg Cooperative, I feel that if Cryptic continues adding additional factions (and let's face it, LoR made money), the Borg "Could" happen.

I still suspect that the Cardassians might happen first though, but you never know.

Cardassians, sounds interesting, but then I think about getting one to level 60 and get spec points, reps.... NO THANKS!

As far as Borg ships go, yeah I would just go for the Borg Diamon that has 6 forward facing weapons 4 aft equippable with cannons, 5 eng, 5 sci and 7 tactical consoles.

2 Commander Universal, 2 LTC Universal ,2 LT Universal and 2 Ens Universal. Shield modifier of 2.5 and 80k hull and some fancy borg regeneration module.

I might just switch my Scimitar for something like this ^^


But I predict before we get the Cardassians we get at least:

1 more Reputation to grind
1 New Primary Spec (already on the test server) to grind another x spec points
1 New Secondary Spec, for even more grinding.

and then 10-50 new dilithium sinks without the ability to refine more

and the usual amount of lock boxes with skills and passives that break the game just a tad more (I still want my 110% crit chance back!)

*IF* Cryptic were to add a playable Borg faction, they have oft stated they would be liberated.

In that case, what I would really love to see instead of traditional Borg ships (Cube, Diamond, Sphere, etc.), would be special "Skins" for certain existing ships that add graphical queues like the Borg Set does, suggesting integrated Borg Tech. That or new Borg consoles/ sets that would do this that could be placed on existing ships. Heck, most times we are really buying ships for the consoles or T-6 Traits anyway once you break it down.

For the most part I don't see all the crazy random alien faction ships flying around as immersion-breaking (I know some do), because I just ignore that they are Fed/KDF/Rom players and instead just enjoy the fact that it breaks up the monotony of all one Faction flying around in certain sector space areas. Star Trek always showed an assortment of species vessels after all.

Though admittedly, Romulan Warbirds routinely decloaking above Qo'noS without so much as an eye-batting from Imperial Intelligence took some getting used to...*Chuckle*...

But for some reason, players flying Borg ships feels different to me... I don't really know why, but somehow that idea feels way stranger than Jem'Hadar or Cardassian vessels hanging about...

Ships aside though, I think that the story potential for the Liberated Borg early game could be really interesting.
