Question

Post by Velzan Dar »

Hi there. I've spoken previously with one of the members of your fleet regarding some general questions(I'll leave out names), but I had another one I've been compelled to ask.

First, I just want to say right now I'm only shopping. I'm currently in Omega and undergoing cadet phase with them. There seems to be some good people there, and I've made a commitment to them, which I don't want to break just on a whim. That being said if I feel I fit somewhere else better, It would be feasible for me to leave.

Anyways, I've been looking through your fleet setup and was wondering if JAG is the closest thing you guys have to a Fleet Security Division? I'm very interested in performing the "quality control/bad guy" role for the fleet for various reasons, but I don't really feel like walking around with "LAWYER" branded on my forehead and character bio, possibly even my member notes :P. I'm more than happy to be "that power tie-wearing, badge carrying guy who only comes around when you misbehave".

So basically I guess I'm asking:
Is JAG the closest you have to security?
Will complaints be both investigated and deliberated on by JAG, or are different people doing those functions seperately?

Anyways thanks for taking the time to read. Also, just want to say I like the site, it looks pretty nice!

I am actually assuming your question is a legitimate curiosity. But as you are currently a member of another fleet I will not disclose our fleet's secruity procedures.

However I will give you one hint, lawyers do not personally investigate crimes.

JAG is the attorneys of our fleet and therefore they do not investigate things. So if you are wanting to join our fleet that will not be a concern.

Excellent, I appreciate it. I've noticed over the past day or so that you seem to be the big JAG proponent/flag carrier, so I truly look forward to hearing what you come up with. As an aside, I enjoyed reading the JAG motto thread, so much that I almost posted, but I felt it would be innappropriate. Personally I'm very fond of "Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodet?" (Who will guard the guardians?)

Yes, my query is most definitely a genuine interest, otherwise I PROMISE you it would have been entirely too much effort to post just to stir up trouble or whateverelse you might fear it was.

The reason I ask is because from reading your charter I got the feeling that y'all have things set up so the entire process is handled by JAG. Specifically, this passage in your charter:

8.1.4 The appointed member of the JAG division then launches an investigation checking the stories of both sides and tracks down any leads discovered or evidence before writing a report with a recommendation and sending it to the Judge Advocate General.

Either way I look forward to hearing back!

JAG may call for an investigation but they themselves do not investigate. Once again I will not reveal anyone who actually keeps the fleets security to non-members.

I am not being a jerk or anything, but I highly suggest we leave this thread lay until we can get an answer from the Admiralty. I may only be an LT. currently, so the suggestion is advisable.

If you are committed to Omega Fleet, you should honor your commitment. The 12th Fleet is not in the habit or business of stealing players. As far as questions regarding Intel and Security, I suggest you PM the head of said Division, Maverick. :)

I think I breached a touchy subject. :?

Its not really a matter of "stealing members". I originally went to omega based on a recommendation, without really shopping around much. There seem to be some decent people there, but I'm having concerns about the general level of maturity I'm seeing. I don't want to get into specifics in a public thread however. I spoke with Arsinoe recently about some things which I was not aware of. His responses were both honest, fair and forthcoming, and I respected that.

I'm still not actually a member of the fleet there I guess, and am trying to figure out if its where I want to stay.

12th fleet looks like it might be a better fit for me based both on my interactions with omega, and from reading your forums. I figured before I decided I should ask here and be clear about how things work so I don't decide I am more comfortable with the people and maturity level here, and then find out its not what I was looking for.

At the end of the day its just a game and I would like to perform a function that I both enjoy and am comfortable with ( and can feel productive doing), and play with the right group of people.

I'll check back occasionally in case any higher ups feel like piping up or anyone has any new info they can share, but I'll refrain from posting a lot more and cluttering this up. Thanks regardless.

I'd like to chime in here as well.

The maturity level i've run across while i've been with the fleet, which isn't very long, has been very refreshing compared to other mmo's i've played/currently play. I did some shopping around at first as well just like you are, and never applied anywhere till I found these great folks. I'm with you in regard to the level of 'adultness' that i'm surrounded by in games, so we're a kindred spirit in that regard.

At any rate, i'll let whichever Admiral/Command officer put their piece in here.
