It had funny moments, sure, but justifying them to watch Star Trek V is like justifying The Phantom Menace for the Podrace and Lightsaber battle—mere fractions of the film, by the way. :P

True. The one ST movie (not counting the JJ ones because those aren't ST movies) that I have to really motivate myself to watch is ST I. The uniforms that have really badly aged and the overly long scenes really get to me after 30 minutes.

I often think they were trying to ape aspects of 2001 with regards to the long, sweeping scenes. I almost forgive TMP, because it wasn't really sure of itself (if that makes sense )

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who felt this way. To me, TMP was a work of art.

Very true, the end scene with V'ger that starts off a cool blue and as the scene progresses and V'ger's need grows more desperate the colour shifts to red as if to underline it's impatience and frustration. Very clever piece of cinematography.

TMP had a lot going for it. At the time, the special effects were among the best around and it did give us the borg :borg: We also can't overlook the fact that, regardless of its faults, it brought Star Trek back to us.
