Jolan Tru!!

Now I know there is a lot of you in this fleet that like the sound of progressive beats/electronic dance music and I am going to be setting up a mix every few weeks for people to check out, I love to mix a variety of music such as Trance, House, Tech house, Drum and Bass, Electro and Dark Progressive Tribal...

A bit of back story, I have been a Dj for almost 13 years, I was once pretty prominent in the scene up in the Midwest for about 5 of those years, playing venues in Chicago, St Louis, Minneapolis and of course, Milwaukee (my home town) and Madison...I stopped for a number of years due to how fast the scene changed over night, but...music is in my blood, I breath, sleep and crap music, everyday there is something playing and if you have been on team-speak you would have heard in my background some sort of beat playing.

The time has come where I think I need to dust off those old turntables (midi controller now) and get back into what I love doing more than art, video games and breathing! so here is the first of which I will be uploading...

https://soundcloud.com/jfskars/the-rebirth-of-skars

I call it "The Rebirth of Skars" because i feel it is a rebirth, I feel I am reborn, this is the style of music that I was mixing back in 02 - 04 and I feel to move forward, you have to move backward. I am also working on creating a Podcast to showcase and review tracks like this, I have a few ideas for names...so for now, we will call this "PROJECT SKARS" So lets have some fun. Because I think it would be fun to share, talk and exchange music of this sort with people...so enjoy!!!

NOTE: Tracklist to come soon

Thanks

Over the past few months, I've begun studying towards a music qualification (I play piano / keys) and one aspect of the course is learning to use DAWs. We mainly use Logic though I've been messing around with Ableton at home. Which DAW do you prefer to use? My friends swear by FL but the workflow is a bit overwhelming at first!

I'm not a massive dance music person but with something you're so evidently passionate about, and talented in, you kinda owe it to yourself to get back into the scene.

Good luck, and keep the tracks coming!

Thanks guys!

As far as software goes, ive tried it all, i like the workflow in ableton, i love the tinkering in Reason 4(if you havent tried that yet), ive used fruity loops a few times, it very much is overwhelming and not really my favorite...once i start producing tracks again, i think im going to use a combination of ableton and reason 4...if you havent tried reason 4, its like getting a ton of random legos and told to make a working car, its pretty intense, but the outcome is well worth it.

I'll definitely have a look at Reason - and yeah, same reasons as to why I personally like Ableton, I found it more straightforward to use. I've heard it's really cool to use for live sets, I guess that's one reason why you use it?

yes it is, here is an example of someone using ableton in real time for a live set! it doesnt show that he is, but i looked into it and jon hopkins is a huge fan of using ableton live for his shows.

Sounds pretty good. Trance isn't usually my stuff, so I've got nothing to compare it to, but I like it.
