Ha. So true.

STO is probably one of the good F2P MMOs in that the C-store content is theoretically accessible without paying anything & is mostly either sidegrades (such as ship refits), cosmetic (costumes & bridge packs) or conveniences (extra inventory space & that lot). Given how other F2P games (such as the one in the video) handle it, we got lucky with this one.

Not to mention that most of the stuff are account wide unlocks instead of per character as it usually is in F2P MMO's

God yes... In fact I'm surprised all the classes in PWI aren't like Venos.

"Trying to get +10 R9 gear? Well you can grind it, or buy D-Stones and Rep Badges from the boutique"

"Want that hard to get pet? Keep grinding, or you could just buy the items for it"

When I first played STO i think it had just gone FTP or somewhere around there. Quite frankly I was expecting your run of the mill F2P game where everything would suck or be totally out of reach unless you shelled out cash. I was expecting to have to pay for each new ship I got as I leveled up, had to pay for BOFF's as I went, etc...

I was quite surprised how I got a fancy new ship every 10 levels, and the missions and level-ups gave me all the weapons and stuff that I needed to have a pretty good time! Its probably the best F2P experience I have had with any game.

Meanwhile in SWTOR....

yeah then there's me. I'm a sucker for uniform appearences so I try to grab most if not all of the uniforms in the C-store LOL. But yeah, STO has a GREAT and unrestrictive free to play model. unlike NWO. where most everything is character bound. That said don't get me started on SWTOR. *facedesk*

EA was the worst thing to happen to that game. it's gotten to the point I view EA and SOE with the same distain.

My SWTOR story goes like this,

*download*
*roll character*
"Why can't I run? I'm sorry, you want me to WHAT? Pay to run? Oh that's precious."
*Uninstall*

You can run from level 10 as a F2P account, was like that for everyone even before it went F2P but they added the ability to buy an unlock or subscribe to run from level 1 when they turned it into F2P.

Maybe I was too harsh on the game then, but judging by the comments I've seen, I don't think I'm missing out.

SWTOR is just too annoying for me to play without having a subscription. Which is exactly what EA wanted. And which is why I don't play it.
