Captain's Log Stardate: 87611.96
On what should have been a routine diplomatic mission from Vulcan to P'Jem, the Endeavour came face to face with Species 8472; otherwise known as the Undine.
Ordered to Vulcan by Admiral Quinn to pick up Ambassador Sokketh, we were greeted by his aide T'Pela who informed us that the ambassador was hesitant to beam aboard the Endeavour. We arranged a shuttlecraft to land near the Ambassador's coordinates. Upon meeting Ambassador Sokketh personally, I found his behavior to be erratic and his mood appeared highly agitated. I should have sensed some kind of warning, seeing as how Vulcans suppress their emotions but speculating from the ambassador's age...one would think he would have had them under control.
High priest Savin was also in attendance who quickly informed me about Vulcan spirituality and we talked about the ambassador alittle. Savin expressed concern about any outsider stepping foot on P'Jem and made me swear on my honor as an officer of Starfleet that no one would harm the monastery or it's inhabitants.
I escorted the ambassador to the shuttlecraft, upon reaching the Endeavour; Sokketh thanked me for my time. Sokketh was escorted to his quarters and we left Vulcan for P'Jem, the conclusion to what was assumed to be a walk in the park.
Immediately approaching P'Jem, we were approached by three Klingon Birds-of-Prey. They demanded we hand over the Ambassador to them because Sokketh was suspected by the Klingons to be an Undine infiltrator.
Video logs will back my testimony of my conversation with the Klingon commander in charge. I asked...calmly...if he could provide proof and in reply the Klingon commander ceased all communications and began their offensive. Unfortunately we destroyed all three Klingon vessels. Afterwards I led an away team to the monastery.
What we found on the grounds were astonishing. We were forced into conflict with three squads of Klingon raiders who were murdering helpless Vulcans. A violation of several Federation laws and accords. I regret the loss of life, even for Klingons but I gave my word to Savin and I wasn't going to stand for cold blooded murder. Once we cleared the areas of activity we got an urgent message of Sokketh's aide T'Pela saying that the body of Sokketh was found near his home and the one among us was an imposter.
I immediately ordered a security detail onboard the Endeavour to apprehend 'Sokketh' and place him in the brig, unfortunately he had escaped the ship altogether. After a weak attempt to appear frightening Sokketh revealed his true form to us. Confirming that he was indeed an Undine spy.
Without me even giving the order, the away team attacked, after a lengthy firefight, the Undine appeared to be fatigued, then taking on the form of a Klingon General. We proceeded to chase the Undine, but were met with offense by more Klingons. We did our utmost to stun as many as we could but the Undine spy beamed to a hidden ship already in orbit.
The Undine vessel appeared to be quite powerful. Luckily my communications officer requested reinforcements . Many thanks to the Crew of the U.S.S. Kirk, the U.S.S. Texas, The U.S.S. Forrest, the U.S.S. Rideout, and U.S.S. Terev for arriving so quickly.
In closing: strength in numbers wins the day. But I fear this just the beginning. I do not doubt a Klingon reprisal may happen sooner than I or any Starfleet officer expect. Should myself and my crew be captured and held on Qo'noS, I offer this log as testimony to the 12th fleet, the Starfleet Jag and Diplomatic corps, The Vulcan High Command, and to the president of the federation himself.
End Log.
