Summary:
Casey Elias is a mature, well rounded Non-Commissioned Officer with almost 40 years of distinguished active duty service. His technical and management skills are top notch and above reproach. He has proven himself to be a very capable and industrious NCO with the respect of enlisted and commissioned alike.

History:
Casey was born into a large family where raising grass fed cattle was a 24 hour a day lifestyle. From the time he could walk till he graduated from High School, it was all he and his family lived and breathed. When the Star Fleet recruiter came to find the best and brightest in his area for admission to the Academy, Casey was not interested. However, through a chance encounter with the Star Fleet Officer during his visit, Casey learned about how starships were built and fitted out and from that point on it was all he could think about. Utopia Planitia orbiting above Mars was where he set his sights and 2 months after graduation he was headed to the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yard's planetary construction facilities on Mars as a Star Fleet Construction Specialist – Apprentice Grade – E1.

Within 6 months Casey was working in the dry docks that were in synchronous orbit above the Utopia Planitia region of Mars. In 2375, 20 year old Casey Elias is assigned to the build team of the U.S.S. Vesta, a new and experimental class starship. For the next 5 years Casey worked on the habitat and out hull sections, the Stardrive section, final attachment of secondary navigational deflector array, and the Bridge module attachment to the Primary hull and in 2380 the U.S.S. Vesta was born, a new and advanced class of Starship entering service in Starfleet. The class was designated a multi-mission explorer and was the test-bed for a number of experimental technologies, including quantum slipstream drive. As of February 2381 there were seven vessels of the class in service and Casey had been a member of the initial shake down/space trials crew for all 7. In 2383 Elias was assigned to the crew of the U.S.S. Aventine, commanded by Ezri Dax and served there for the next several years.

From there Elias worked his way up, and down, the enlisted ranks, losing a grade for insubordination to an Admiral at one point. Other than that one event and a bit of brig time Casey spent most of the next 2 decades in a Systems support role aboard several starships. The year 2400 found Chief Petty Officer Elias aboard the hospital ship USS Kumar as the NCOIC (non-commissioned Officer In Charge) of the Systems Support team. On the 12th of January 2400 the USS Kumar was assaulted by renegade Ferengi pirates. That day Casey found himself on the bridge when the attack began and witnessed the death or incapacitation of the entire bridge command crew save for one young Lieutenant William Ashwing. Ashwing stepped up and took command of the Kumar that day and under his leadership they successfully drove off the Pirates and the death or very probable captivity of the entire crew. It was an event that brought Elias as close to death as he had ever wished to be, and he was not ready to repeat it again anytime soon.

In 2406 Casey, then a Senior Chief Petty Officer, was given a plum assignment to teach Systems Management at the academy for several semesters. He loved his time on earth but missed the hands on activity that he had grown accustomed to during his career. Following his instructor assignment at the academy, and his promotion to Master Chief Petty Officer, Elias was appointed as the Systems Operational Liaison and Technical Consultant to the design teams at Utopia Planitia for the project to update the Intrepid design. When the first of its type was commissioned in March of 2410 Casey pressed Starfleet Command for a real working assignment. His request was granted and he was assigned to lead the Systems Repair team on a 3 year project at Venek Nor, a mothballed Cardiassian Starbase. They had 3 years to get it Operationalized and ready to support Starfleet’s activities near the edge of the Rolor Nebula.

Current Status:
With the assignment at Venek Nor coming to a close Casey is now about to move on to his next posting.

On Stardate 86900.36 (Feb 22 2413) Master Chief Petty Officer Casey Elias reported for duty aboard the U.S.S. Nova Scotia, a Vesta Class. It had been 27 years since Casey was last aboard a Vesta and was impressed to see the many improvements to the original design. As well as some Classified, non-disclosed, additions to the ship that Casey was interested in finding out more about.

Recently Operationalized Starbase "Venek Nor"

On the edge of the Rolor Nebula, hung in space, floated Venek Nor, the pinnacle of Cardiassian Starbase design implemented during the height of their power.

3 years ago the only acknowledgement of its existence was as a fully depreciated asset that was still on the Cardiassian accounting ledgers. 3 years and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears later and Venek Nor was now a fully operational UFP Starbase, albeit with only intermediate servicing capacity available at the moment

However the cargo vessel, SS Meyers Trophy, packed with the most hi-tech Starship support systems right off the Federation conveyer belt had just docked. And once installed and operationalized the contents of that vessel would bring the Starbase to a level of sophistication not typically seen in Starbase’s this far from the center of the Federation.

Entering docking slip 3, Casey increased his stride, put on his Master Chief's demeanor, and then waded right into the thick of the seemingly massive chaos, orchestrating the movement and defining the destinations for the cargo.

Just then Casey heard a noise and quickly jumped out of the way as a transport case came crashing down. Fuming, Casey began climbing up the massive loader at a speed not expected from someone of his age.

"Wilson, that was the last straw!! If I get up there before you get down I'm gonna throw you down!"

Chasing the young Petty officer second class from the controls of the loader Casey climbed into the seat, grabbed the controls and continued the unloading process. And not for the first time that day he found himself once again wishing that his orders for his next assignment would finally come through.

Master Chief Petty Officers Log
U.S.S. Nova Scotia
MCPO Casey Elias
14:00 NST

As he sits down at the desk in his cabin Casey makes a mental note to remember to thank William for the accommodations. The Master Chief then has the computer pull up on the screen the layout of the U.S.S. Nova Scotia, familiarizing himself with the subtle and some not so subtle changes on the Nova from the original Vesta class design that Casey had worked on almost 40 years earlier at the shipyards of Utopia Planitia.

Standing up and stretching, his back popping as he did so, Casey walks over to the replicator and gets a cup of black coffee and then sits back down at the desk. He spends the next hour reviewing the service record highlights for the top and bottom 10% of the 450 +/- enlisted personnel assigned to the U.S.S. Nova Scotia. One of the additional duties that fell to him as the senior enlisted crew member aboard the Nova was to be the advocate, mentor, and coach to the enlisted as well as the enlisted advisor to the Captain and his staff on enlisted personnel issues or concerns.

The Master Chief then leans back and reflects a moment.

"Computer, open Personal log. Master Chief Petty Officer Casey Elias, Stardate 86900 point 46. It appears that other than a couple of troublemakers which are well documented the Nova is blessed with not only a very young and talented group of officers but a gifted enlisted crew as well. It seems to almost be a cherry picked group with the skills and temperament overlaps one rarely finds in the enlisted ranks aboard a deep space vessel."

The Master Chief sips his coffee and reflects on his last assignment aboard a starship back in '06, almost 7 years earlier. "This is what I have missed most... An assignment aboard a starship led by an excellent Commanding Officer on an open ended mission."

Casey found it hard to believe that he had almost at 40 years of active duty in StarFleet. All of his peers from his NCO (non commissioned officer aka "enlisted") Leadership school had long since retired or had been killed in action serving the Federation. While retirement was still on the table and closer than ever, the other alternative was still always a possibility, although not one that Casey ever dwelled on for long.

Renewing his personal log, Elias continues "I am scheduled to meet my new department chief at 16:00, Lt. Commander McCafferey. It seems that the meeting is to be held in the Mariner, a nice casual environment to meet the Chief of Ops. I would like to discuss the structural compensations employed to account for the significantly beefed up EPS Conduit distribution systems recently installed in the Nova Scotia."

"I would also like to meet up with Cala later. While it would be good to uncover more information about both her and Siana, the two Cardassian Scientists who also joined the crew when the Nova Scotia docked at Venek Nor, my main concern is the Cardassian Ops officer who also joined us just prior to the arrival of the Nova. "

Casey stood and paced the deck while he finished his first shipboard log ending with his review of the status of the enlisted crew which he also sent a copy to the Skipper and his staff.

"Computer close log" Noting that it was 15:45 Casey then checked his reflection in the mirror and left his cabin and headed to the Mariner.
