Captain's log, Stardate 86807.88, Captain Zian K. Zirzek reporting.

Casualty reports are still coming in, and the medical bay is understaffed and over populated. Among the command staff lost were Lieutenant Commander Krall Odallu, Chief of Security, and Lieutenant Commander Zyrav Phahr, the ship's Chief Engineer. Our current estimated crew compliment is 194 out of 512 who left Spacedock with us.

Damage reports are still coming in as well, and damage control teams are working to repair critical systems. Commander Shala has recommended Lieutenant Chag as acting Chief Engineer, and I am inclined to agree with the appointment. Lieutenant Thelas P'phaph will take over as acting Chief of Security.

The ship will remain on yellow alert until the worst of the damage is repaired and we are once more underway toward home.

It has been five days since our battle with the Borg. The final tally of those lost comes to 287, with 23 of those missing but assumed lost, leaving the Reliant with a compliment of 225. Lieutenant Chag believes that we will be ready to get underway by 0500 tomorrow, and I look forward to it. With subspace communications down, we're cut off for now.

Repairs will continue on the way home, but the doubled shifts will be eased. The crew needs a rest; who could blame them? I have recommended to Commander Shala that while the double shifts can be lightened, not to allow anyone with too much down time except where medically needful.

With Counselor Kysse in sick bay with extensive plasma burns, the last thing we need is to lose focus. Right now the repair and security of the Reliant keeps us distracted from our losses.

At least the crew's distrust of the Romulan officers seems to have been eased by this shared experience.

It's been slow going, but the we all received good news today, a short range hail from a Miranda light cruiser on long range patrol. Captain R'Zriall of the U.S.S. Freya has agreed to escort us back as far as Deep Space 9. He was also kind enough to allow us to relay messages to Starfleet Command, as well as our friends and families.

Starfleet Command has assured me that my crew will receive leave upon our return and debriefing. The crew can't wait, and are already making plans to visit friends and loved ones.

On another note, Lieutenant Volentine assures me that Counselor Kysse will be back on her feet within the week, thanks to the fully functioning medical facility aboard the Freya.

Captain's log, Stardate 86849.33, Captain Zian K. Zirzek reporting.

We passed within sensor range of a pair of Cardassian frigates last week. We kept our distance, as there are rumors of True Way activities in this region.

Counselor Kysse is back to her own quarters now, and has begun working with some of the crew. I suggested that she take a bit of time to settle in, but she insisted that throwing herself into her work was the best therapy for her. Doctor Volentine assures me that she is fit enough in body and mind to return to duty, so I offered no further objections.

We should be at Deep Space 9 within two weeks. Thanks to the damage to our warp nacelle in the asteroid belt, our speed is severely compromised.

I have received word that the remaining Romulan officers aboard ship will be disembarking when we arrive. I can understand the reasoning, the Reliant will be in spacedock for some time for repairs, if she isn't decommissioned altogether.

I will miss their assistance however, and I feel that the crew has grown to appreciate their ability and professionalism. A Lieutenant Aihah has been providing short range scouting of our path since we saw the Cardassians. She treats that Romulan Runabout like it's her own personal starship, and the Runabout crew seems to respect her.

Maybe unification is worth re-examining in the future.

Captain's log, Stardate 86859.5, Captain Zian K. Zirzek reporting.

We have docked and the disembarkations have begun. I'm told that the bulk of the crew will be taking transports back to Earth Spacedock for debriefing. We started our goodbyes today, and I already look forward to seeing them all again. They served their Captain and Ship well, and deserve this bit of time on leave. Even the Romulan officers have disembarked and been given temporary lodgings on Deep Space 9.

It's feels strange wandering a ship with so little crew remaining. As old Earth mariners implied, a ship is like a living thing, and you can feel that when you work with her. But if the ship is a living being, the crew is it's soul.

I will remain with my ship on her way to spacedock. It wouldn't do for her to be left with strangers.
