David was born in the centre of Cork City, though he lived with his parents and was raised in the small village of Carrignavar. David always dreamed of joining Starfleet from a young age, though his parents feared that the lack of technology in their village could hinder his chances of enlisting. They sent David to boarding school in Cork city where he breezed through his studies, though never really seemed to hit his stride. His teachers were always complaining that he never applied himself and that he could always do better. Despite this, he still managed to make the cut and was accepted into Starfleet Academy.
He spent his early days much as he did in school, breezing his way through with mid-range grades and constantly being challenged by his tutors to apply himself more. He was at risk of being expelled from the Academy, due to his attitude, until he started pilot and combat training. In these two areas he excelled, finally applying himself to something. His tutors were delighted and, for the first time, it looked like he might make it to become a ranking officer.
With the shortage of good pilots, and the increasing need for ships such as carriers, he was immediately assigned to the U.S.S. Archanis, a Federation-Caitian carrier, as a fighter pilot. Though the ship rarely saw the front lines, piloting a fighter was a risky decision for a new recruit, but David more than proved himself up to the challenge. Even going so far as to taking command of a wing of fighters himself when the carrier's communications went down during a battle against two Neigh'Var class Warships. Though the carrier was eventually forced to retreat, David never lost a man while he was in command of the fighters.
