[1.0 Introduction]
There are days, and there are perfect days. On the last perfect day, the wind blew softly as William Sinclair stood with Maggie on the beach, watching sea gulls dance just about the white caps of the ocean waves.
"You are leaving again, aren't you?" she said.
Holding her hand, Sinclair watched a castle built in sand slowly erode away. Overhead in orbit, the U.S.S. Equinox silently awaited the arrival of her new commanding officer.
"Yes," he said, giving her a soft smile. He needed to say nothing more. She understood that his first duty was to Starfleet. Though not his first love...she was what he had always come back to. Or had...
*** The sound of a door chime startled Sinclair back into the present ***
"Enter," he said, masking a deep sigh. The image of Maggie on the beach went gray.
Commander T'Aura walked confidently into the ready room, seeing Sinclair set his holovisor aside on the desk. The striking blonde with her uncommonly British accent showed no indication that she noticed.
"Captain, I am sorry to disturb you. I note that you are working in your ready room during your off-duty hours. Perhaps you would find your personal quarters more ... restful ...?" Having served with Sinclair for years now, T'Aura knew how to watch out for her captain in her own subtle ... Vulcan ... way.
"Out with it, commander." Sinclair knew her well enough that she would not have come to report in person during his off duty hours if it was not urgent.
T'Aura let her piercing gaze assess her captain just a moment longer, then said "Sir, I am pleased to report that all stations are reporting operational ahead of schedule..."
Sinclair thought for a moment that the Vulcan commander actually looked pleased with herself.
"...The U.S.S Andalusia and her crew is ready for space duty, Captain."
Sinclair sat back in his chair, feeling a momentary feeling of great pride. The Andalusia, one of the Federation's latest multi-mission explorer vessels, ready to take wing. He had been fortunate enough to witness moments like this before in his career. They never grew old.
"Well done. Thank you, Commander." Sinclair responded with a look of admiration and appreciation. "Inform the crew to be prepared for departure at 08:00 hours."
T'Aura acknowledged his order with a nod and silently retreated from the ready room. Sinclair paused, looking again at the holovisor on his desk, then turned his attention to the computer.
"Computer, display career log for Sinclair, William, Starfleet Serial Number 1112080411."
He watched as the display came up, watching the achievements roll by. It caused him to think back over his career and the incredible sacrifices that had come with it, including the greatest sacrifice of all. Perhaps with this new command he might undo that, he was not yet sure....

Sinclair looked over the short list describing his career, remembering the details of every moment, those he wanted to remember, and those he did not. Still, those were the moments that made him who he was. But that was not the question. The question was now about who he would become. Standing, he straightened his uniform and strode out of his ready room onto the bridge of his new ship, ready to take command.
