Coyoti did not live a particularly normal Trill childhood. His parents, starfleet officers, were stationed in a far sector of Federation space beyond the Romulan and Klingon empires. Starbase was considered a frontier starbase. It's locations, separated from the bulk of Federation Space, afforded it few amenities and little safety. However, the location and mission of the starbase was crucial to the federation. The starbase kept tabs on the neutral zone between Klingon, Federation, and Romulan borders in the Beta quadrant. It also served as a base for many off-station science surveys and missions.

Coyoti's parents served on Starbase 123 for three years before his birth. It had always been planned for the couple to return to Trill so their son could grow in his culture; however, a Klingon versus Romulan skirmish bled over onto Starbase 123. The resulting damages caused the death of Coyoti's parents and his premature birth. Fearing his life, two Humans from Earth adopted him and moved him to Earth.

On earth, he lived in Montana on a farm, learning all that while only gaining rudimentary knowledge of his heritage.

When he turned 16, Coyoti immediately moved away from Montana to join Starfleet Academy. He loved his adopted parents, but he had grown up often bullied. He wanted something more than the farming community offered. Desiring more knowledge of his people, he decided to join Starfleet. In his heart, he wanted to expand and explore his horizons. Starfleet offered him that option.

He didn't lead a particularly noteworthy career in the Academy. He was a strong hand-to-hand fighter and had good tactical skills. His marksmanship was above average, but not enough to put him too far above anyone else. He scored good grades and kept out of trouble. His one big Academy accomplishment was the completion of a simulation that mirrored the Kobayashi Maru's no-win scenario. He, obviously, failed in the objective. However, according to the instructors conducting the test, he had reacted admirably in the face of imminent death and destruction. his choices had saved a majority of the simulated crew.

This distinction, among good grades, landed him a position as tactical officer on board the U.S.S. Tranquility.

Aboard the U.S.S. Tranquility, Coyoti was afforded the bliss of anonymity. He escaped the bullying of his hometown in Montana. He escaped the stress of Academy life. He was free to learn and grow beneath the watchful eyes of the stars. he quickly grew to respect his Captain, a man who seemed to make all the right choices and favor diplomacy over aggressive negotiations. Coyoti was sent on many away teams, the standard tactical officer to help security watch over science and medical officers.

Seven months into his career aboard Tranquility, he faced his very first situation where he thought he may die. He was with an away team caring for colonists on a planet in the Oceanus system when the Gorn struck. It was a decisively brutal attack that destroyed much of the colony and killed two of his charges. The Gorn made away with 25 colonists when Coyoti was able to make contact with the Tranquility. Already in battle with the small Gorn fleet, the ship didn't look to have any chance. Using stealth, Coyoti and 3 members of his away team managed to beam aboard the Gorn vessel holding the captive colonists. They sabotaged it and jettisoned the escape pods. After that, they boarded the ships only shuttle with the colonists and escaped back to Tranquility. Overwhelmed by the Gorn attacks, they had to flee the system. That mission was the first commendation Coyoti earned, and it earned him the rank of Lieutenant.

After the Tranquility was repaired, they resumed duties, and a little over a year later, faced the Borg. On a tour of the Klingon Front, several Borg cubes warped into battle. It was sudden and vicious; however the united might of Starfleet pushed the Borg back out of Federation space. Despite the Federation victory, the Tranquility was lost long before the fight ended. During battle, the small ship suffered irreparable damage with half the crew becoming casualties. Coyoti escaped with the rest of the crew before the ship's warp drive went critical. Before the Borg even left, Coyoti had to traverse the battlefield with his injured crew, escaping narrowly the implacable Borg. For his command of the escape, and for his compassion toward the surviving crew afterward, Coyoti was given command of the U.S.S. Divinity.

November 26.

In Starfleet, they fill your head with the ideas of becoming a Great like Kirk or Sisko. You imagine getting a ship with dozens of decks. A veritable sustainable planet all wrapped up in a huge starship. What they don't say is that you're more likely to just be placed on one of the oldest bag of bolts in the sky that's no bigger than my thumb nail.

Rimma says i'm overthinking things. But this ship is falling apart around its ears. I thought after escorting the Faulkner around in the Divinity, I would be given a bit of notice. We flew all along the Klingon and Romulan fronts saving colonists, stopping the Empires from shaving away at Federation territory. But what do I get? This shi. A defiant class antique. Five decks of hanging wires, old hull plating, antique engines, and weapons that wouldn't dent a Twentieth Century automobile. I told Rimma that and she just rolled her eyes telling me to look past to what we could make it.

Cori'Zan just laughs at my pain. She told me that she's in line to accept the next Galaxy Class out of Utopia Planetia. Never let it be said that Betazoid women lack a sense of humor. Especially at their friend's pain. At least she's Science and not Medical. I might have to hang myself if she were a counciler.

The crew has started moving in> At least we're used to small ships. Double bunking in the crew quarters is a common practice for us. Especailly while we repair some of the hull damage in other areas of the crew deck. We even have a few new crewman. J'Pon and his brother Kar'Voth. Klingons that we saved from annhiliation along the federation boarder. We were told they were Sector 31 ensigns just out of the academy placed to help gain federation territory in the Klingon Empire. Didn't work out so well. They're pretty quiet. I have no clue how they're going to fit in their quarters.

Gartock insists the engines will be running by the time Cori'Zan is given her ship. Our standing orders are still to escort her on her science missions and such. We're her cannon. it suits us. Gartock and Heather both believe they'll get the ship up and running by the middle of next month. I'm not too sure, but I trust them enough not to tell them that. We have two weeks before we need to be back on active duty. Every crewman is working around the clock to get things working. Even the civlians are getting together to set aside some room. Shore leave will be few and far between with all the violence in the galaxy. We'll need some little area to catch some relaxation.

And as much as I like Commander Cori'zan, i'm not going to send my crew to her new ship every time they want to relax. She has a way of seeing right through me. And smirking all the while. Bah.

Communique just arrived and I'm being sent alogn with Cori'zan to the Academy. Time to brief the cadets on the current situation in the Klingon Front. Just reminds me of the time I first met Cori'zan at the academy. Hard to believe that was barely five years ago. And here we are already commanding our own ships.

End log.
