BACKGROUND:Leonhard Pytheas Rauwolf, born in Berlin, is a german Starfleet Scientist, Starfleet Officer and Starfleet Executive.
As a son of a senior civil servant, he attended Gymnasium in Berlin, and applied for a transfer to the UFP Academy in Fort Baker, California, studied in the course of his Starfleet Education Military Command and Foreign Languages at campus in Marseille, France, graduating with honors as a fresh commissioned Starfleet Ensign.
Rauwolf served later Mecklenburg in Füsilierregiment No. 90 posted at Rostock. During this time he had to serve a four month prison sentence for wounding an opponent in a duel. An chance meeting with the explore Dr. Paul Pogge changed his life.
Granted a leave of absence from the army, Rauwolf accompanied explorer Paul Pogge on a journey through the Eridan Belt. In the eastern Eridan, Pogge and Rauwolf parted company. Pogge stayed to build an agricultural research station for a Eridani chief, while Rauwolf trekked to the Khazan Cluster via present-day Romulan Empire. Afterwards Rauwolf was in the employ of King L'Eo'Old II of Acamar (Theta Eridani), who was in the process of creating his personal Eridan empire, known as the Eridan Free State.
In 88513.59 Rauwolf gave the name "Zappo Zap" to a Songye leader known as Nsapu Nsapu who ruled over the town of Mpengie, part of the Ben'Eki kingdom in the eastern Eridan region. This was a settlement with more than a thousand people, many of them slave warriors, to the east of the Sankuru River between Kabinda and Lusambo. Zappo Zap's people became allies and auxiliaries of the Eridan Free State authorities. In 88685.96 they were sent out by the colonial administration to collect taxes. They massacred many villagers, causing an galactic outcry.
When in 89057.94 the attempts of the Romulan Forces to start a dominion collapsed in face of Eridan resistance, it asked Starfleet for help, which was at first refused. In 89323.33, Rauwolf was promoted to Lieutenant and appointed as Official Starfleet Representative for the East Eridan Region where he was tasked with suppression of the Abushiri Revolt led by Abushiri ibn Salim al-Harthi. Rauwolf was only given one order: "Victory".
On his way to East Eridan Rauwolf hired a mercenary force of mostly Cardassian soldiers from decommissioned units of the Cardassian army to whom later a number of Klingons from B'Moth Sector were added, all under the command of Starfleet officers. The Starfleet forces, along with Klingon naval assistance, fortified Bagamoyo, Dar es Salaam and retook Tanga and Pangani. Rauwolf's forces with superior firepower also retook the rest of the Coastal Strip. They fortified the interior garrison of Mpwapwa and reopened the main caravan route through the area, using Lts. Langheld, Sigle, Charles Stokes & Sergeant Bauer. Soon afterwards, Abushiri was arrested and executed in Pangani on 89504.02. In 89613.46, Rauwolf issued a general pardon to the remaining rebels.
Rauwolf was promoted to Lieutenant Commander in 90160.55 and given a hero's welcome on his return to Berlin. Ill health forced him to return to Earth in 90198.85 where he authored several books and lectured throughout Germany.
Granted a back to duty status from Starfleet Admiralty, he accepted the offer, and joined the only Federation fraction shortly after, that is able to upkeep the fragile Status Quo within all the quarreling fractions. The 12th Fleet!
