I'm not sure you guys understand my point...I was assigned to tactical in this fleet, yet I want to be an Engineer in the game itself.

My original question was does the division you're assigned to in the 12th effect the role you play in the game itself. So since I want to be an Engineer and captain a cruiser in STO, shall I switch to the Engineering division? I'm confused :?

From the way we work as a fleet the way I have seen it. You join the section of the fleet you think you will most likly play in when the game comes out based on what you think you'll do and what you favret thing to do in game is (I.E. pvp, pve). So if you think what you are going to do is be more of an enginer then a fighter then yea switch on over to enginering. It's all up to you. think of our fleet as having mini guilds in witch you can transfer and all guilds working together to be one geart guild we could not be without eachother. Just find the place you think you will fit in. Also keep in mind you don't have to choose right now. I say wate for open beta and after you play around and get a feel for what you are doing make a disien then. ^^

Wellll... honestly only the closed beta users know how the gameplay difference between cruiser and escort ships/ Tactical skill line or Engineer skill line will work out so my advise is that we start in the open beta open minded and everyone looks if the way he wants to play is fun. If by then you want change to engineering I doubt anyone would mind, if not.. well a cruiser is an tactical asset as well as an escort class so you may choose to stay.. Or maybe you will want to go into science ;)

I wouldn't make the call before you actually have seen the game..

Alright, i'll wait for open beta and see what I prefer before making a choice...thanks for advice :)

The closed beta testers aren't allowed to give you new information. We can however clarify things for you folks.

A cruiser is an engineering asset, not a tactical one. But think of it this way instead

"Do you want to be doing Science Vessel-type abilities in an escort?"
"Do you want to be doing offensive-type abilities in an escort?"

Just think carefully about how you want to play the game in that respect. If you run into someone with a similar class ship.

Compare it to a shaman(tactical officer) who wants to wear cloth (Science Vessel) instead of Mail (Escort). You can do it, but....

Sorry that's all for now, best advice is to ask us about it when Open Beta comes out.

I think any ship could be in any division its what you really want to do , who knows maybe the exploration people need a tactical escort , maybe they need a cruisers large cargo hold to carry supplies.

If you make an engineering character you would fit in more with the engineering department maybe. I see the individual divisions helping each other out im not sure but i think thats most likely going to be the case. A tactical PvP group will still need a science ship or cruiser to compliment their squad.
