A while back I made this approximate complaint after learning that the Fed tutorial started at the Academy: "The Romulan player character starts as a retired but still battle hardened badass who rigs an antique starship back into working order and promptly shoves it down the Tal Shiar's throat. The Klingon player character starts as an active duty badass who takes his ship from a coward at the point of a knife and promptly shoves it down Section 31's throat. The Federation player character is... a fresh faced Academy cadet."

What I did manage to play of the tutorial, though, I actually take it back. You're not an established badass, but you've already proven yourself enough to get a first officer's chair (putting you actually in line to become captain and not just arbitrarily more ensign than the ship full of ensigns because the officers all died), your captain dies like a badass and leaves you to fill his shoes. I'm happy with it.

You know, up until it bugged out and I got stuck inside the captain's chair. That part kinda ruined the magic.

Don't forget the bit (I assume, since it always bugged out before space) where said fresh faced cadet shoves his ship down the Klingons' throat

That's where I got stuck in a chair, sadly. Captain Taggart's ghost was standing over my shoulder facepalming while I squirmed around in helpless confusion crying, "HOW DO I STARSHIP!?"

Awesome vids Yuzral, Can't wait to see the rest of it when the bugs are fixed. Looks like a decent start to the game, at least much better than when i started over 3 years ago.
