dStahl Interviewed by Priority One (Apr 9 2013) A brief summary of the podcast: Expansion will cost nothing? TRUE. Costs Cryptic money to make. Will play Romulans for free. May 21. After level 10, and allegiance set, can only play re-hashed Fed/KDF missions? FALSE. Rom players can create fleets? TRUE. Fleet holdings will be Fed/KDF graphics though. Possibility of creating Rom Starbases in the future. It's a lot of work, though. If a player doesn't choose allegiance, they don't have to? TRUE. Don't have to, but will be stuck playing first 5 episodes over and over again. Won't be able to progress the storyline at all. Can players switch alliance? FALSE Currently No. Opens up cans of worms -- faction gear acquisition causes problems. When a new player logs in the first time what do they see? Using Rom FE (old one) as an anchor point -- a kind of convergence where all 3 factions stories come together. All missions before that is faction exclusive. All missions after that is shared. Roms get new missions that tell their back-story. Make a choice about alliance. Rom Republic was just a fleet of ships following D'Tan. Each faction gets their own insight about what the Iconians are up to that is unique. When is that convergence? Between late 30's & 40's for everyone. About 40 for Roms. With DOffs and events it's hard to say. After convergence can do cardassian hub, breen hub, etc. Those are all shared experience for all factions. Heard about 18% KDF players, 18% KDF at conventions, and return on investment. What about the business decision to move on to Roms with a KLDF partial faction? What about doing both? We have chance and opportunity to fill in missing levels? Just decided to do it all at once. KDF faction not as enticing as Fed, due to amount of content? Looking at our story, and looking forward to our future (of story), and want all 3 factions to be on equal footing when moving forward with story. Want to add more backstory to the Klingon perspective, why would they grudgingly agree to help Romulans. Not going to lie -- spent majority of time working on Roms, but did add to KDF to help understand what's going on with the story. Just log in and go back and play the new KDF missions. No need to re-roll. Enemies should be level-appropriate. Stuff adding is prequel backstory to help understand the Rom story. Roms start out on farming colony? Do we kill rats? Not playing the Tal Shiar. Some people won't like that fact. Tal Shiar is hooked up with the Iconians. Not willing to go down that path as playing the baddies. Pose question: What are you going to do about it? Going to reclaim the government? Sela & the military takeover of the Rom government. Citizens have to decide to let that stand, or restore the society. Make a call -- who's in the right here? Who can restore the Legacy of Romulus? Sela? D'Tan? Obisek? What pulls us from a farmer to a fighter? Those are the themes being pursued. Going to have to make a choice. In a dramatic way that can't be spoiled. Joseph Campbell. D'Tan is an idealist, wants to follow Spock's idea of reunification. Founds a planet, not in Romulan space, in contested area. Both factions look at D'Tan and what he's doing. Looking to gain tech, and push ideals. As a Rom character, you're not raised by D'Tan. Just given a uniform. Just looking for best way to restore LoR. KDF says: D'Tan's here today gone tomorrow, stick with us to take on Tal Shiar. D'Tan does have to cut some deals. Rom people don't necessarily know what happened to Hobus star. Quest for knowledge. Roms need intel from other factions to figure out what happened. Not necessarily getting the straight story from anyone. You, as a citizen, want to know what really happened. Who is this new silent enemy? Iconians? The Dewans. Who are they? It's a huge spoiler. Get the answers to all those questions. Is a very specific enemy chosen to be a specific threat to the Rom Republic. Leading up to new Rom FE will connect dots. What is biggest, baddest type ship coming? Plan is to have every Rom ship ever seen in the game. After all IP ships, then continue making their own. Talking with CBS right now about that. Best? Personal preference. Can pick any favorite ship, and there will be an endgame version of it. -- Ready for the TOS Enterprise question... Nimbus 3 Adventure Zone A leveled zone (not endgame). (around 20-25) at the top. The instanced areas will be leveled to you. Story being told is prequel content leading to Obisek & FE series. Back-world neighborhood. Failed colony, turned into pirates paradise. Certain characters have taken up residence. Directly into storyline. Not repeatable content. Events, specific people. Rom Republic duty officers will be added to packs. Will Rom players have unique DOff assignments? Yes, and access to alliance assignments. Most Rom assignments will take place in Rom space, not really elsewhere. Working on Rom/Reman DOff packs, will have Rom/Rem BOffs. [Q from prev Q&A about Dan wanting a new graphics card] Computer system requirements changing? No. Trying to fix bad problems with some video chipsets. Trying to improve textures. Happy with concepts of D'Tan's fleet. Militia uniform/Citizen's minuteman uniform. Depending on alliance, will get different costume variants. Same with Remans. Help with small fleets with Starbases? Crunching numbers to reduce costs on projects. Just going to flat-out make it easier. Just going to drop prices. Asked systems team to do it. Possible to go to other fleet's stores, and buy stuff your fleet doesn't have. Not exactly working as intended, but trying to work that out. Planning to reduce costs, [but may block ability to buy from other starbases]. Plans to collaborate with movie? Not at this time. 2 different studios and different rules. They have their own game. Have heard it's not appropriate right now. Increase capacity for fleets? Don't have a solution yet, but looking into fleet alliances -- formalize that. Not going to raise the cap. Web gateway? No announcements yet. Are working on stuff, but not talking about it. Flying Alliance ships? Wanted Roms to be able to fly alliance faction ships. It's ok to fly the faction ship you already bought (account-wide c-store ships). No plans to change, but are discussing feedback from the forums. Looking at the business side of things as well. Try to find the best way to make the most people happy. Flying warbirds as a Rom captain: Warbirds have a new combat mechanic with singularity core. Other captains don't get this bonus. People not seeing singularity cores. Can only slot in warbirds. More powers tied to this power bar. New equipment: Warp Cores Will have all their own variations and themes. Don't work in warbirds. |
