one of my laptops. (toshiba satellite (old, ancient, you know dawn of man old)) was in need of some memory. so i got 2gb (2x 1gb sticks) one works. one doesnt.

the bad one likes to make the laptop go psycho. you turn it on and 3 seconds later shuts off. then starts to turn its self on/off for 20secs give or take and you hear a clicking.

it may have resolved itself..... but its still weird

Could be bad memory, try exchanging it.

Put the memory that doesn't work in the slot for the memory that does work.
That'll let you check if it's the slot or the memory itself.

If it doesn't work in there either, it's broken. If it does, then the slot is broken
