FLEET HISTORY

12th Fleet was founded by Arsinoe and Enterprise-D on the 27th of July 2009.

12th Fleet was originally much different than it was today. It was run in a relatively standard structure, similar to our current one but with a few major differences.

Arsinoe, was the Fleet admiral, in charge of all matters and everything went through him. Below him were the Section Heads, who were in charge of each of the groups of Divisions (Science, Operations etc). Below these were the Rear Admirals (RA)(what today is equivalent of a Vice Admiral (VA)).

12th Fleet was in the original Council of Fleets. It is still unclear exactly what happened, but one thing lead to another and 12th Fleet was removed from the Council, with the remaining fleets of the Council being at war with us. This Council broke up at some point, but the fleets continued to be against us.

STO Launched woooo

Arsinoe would often go on large breaks of several weeks, meaning that nothing would get done (no new members, roster changes etc) and members started getting fed up. There were also small incidents of drama between Arsinoe and various members every so often.

Eventually, there was a big incident and many members, including a few Admirals left and created another fleet (The Shadows) who we have still stayed friends with.

A little while later, a few members started sending mails around to the rest of the fleet, spouting lies and suggesting they leave and join a new fleet they were making. This caused a good proportion of members to abandon 12th Fleet, luckily, Enterprise-D managed to point out their lies to a good proportion of the remaining members, which prevented most of the fleet from leaving.

There was a lot of pressure put on Arsinoe over this time and in the end, he decided to step out and take a break. He promoted Enterprise-D to Fleet Admiral in game and was gone.
Now, with the leader gone, the Rear Admirals got together and formed the Council of Admirals, 12th Fleet was now a democracy!

This is where things started getting better for the fleet.

There was a huge backlog of recruits, and I happened to be online when the Rear Admirals started going through them. I offered my help and began going through pages of applicants and sorting them for each Division. One thing lead to another and I was now the Official Recruitment Overlord!
Lets say this got me noticed, and soon I was thrown under a few buses and was made RA of what was then Research.

Time went by, the RAs having frequent meetings (as we do now) to discuss matters and after each meeting, the fleet got a little bit more awesome.

Over the next few months:

• Various people joined, left, were promoted to lead Divisons, each serving a vital role in 12th Fleet
• Trade and Supply got merged into Engineering, then taken back out and combined with Research to become R&D (a fairly recent change)
• When season 2 came out and the in-game ranks increased, we changed our ranking structure to be similar, and thus was born VAs, Commodores and Command Advisors
• We doubled the size of the fleet by increasing the size of squads to 11 members, and more recently increased the size of the fleet by another half, by adding 2 additional squads to each Division, to be added as they see fit
• The fleet expanded, becoming bigger and better, reaching new heights of awesomeness
• We started the fleet magazine, giving members something to read, crafted lovingly by the Magazine Staff

The Future brings many great things. STO will continue to be updated (some of the upcoming updates look AMAZING), we will have new members, each of which with the capability to bring something new and exciting to the fleet (We consider all suggestions) and we will continue to be what has become the most amazing community of people, I have ever been a part of, and so I thank you all for making it possible.

Live Long and Prosper

LORE BACKGROUND

The Dominion War

The 12th Fleet started out as a military unit of Starfleet during the Dominion war. In the year 2375 they assembled at starbase 19 in preparation to drive the Dominion forces from the planet Betazed conquered shortly before. Before the attack could commence the Dominion launched a pre-emptive attack witch led to the destruction of 36 ships including the USS Nautilus. (TNG novel: "The Battle of Betazed")At the end of the war the fleet was decommissioned by Starfleet command. Its ships assigned to other duties.

Intergalactic Relations

The following years the intergalactic relations took a surprising turn, relations with the Romulans after the “Shinzon” incident improved considerably and the Federation devoted itself to assist the Cardassians to restore their people to prosperity. Meanwhile more and more voices in the Klingon Empire spoke up that it was time to return to the old ways and expand the Empire and with the other Alpha Quadrant powers weakened or otherwise engaged.

An idea that grew in strength after the Romulan occupation of Khitomer in 2381. As a result the Klingons launched an attack and regained Khitomer in 2382. This action upset galactic politics in 2383 even though the extremely recent Romulan claim had lasted less than a year.

Over the next decade relations between the Federation and Klingon Empire continued to decline with the first incident occurring in 2392 when the USS Montana attempted to intervene in an armed skirmish between Klingon and Gorn starships and suffered heavy damage by Klingon disruptor fire in the process.

A New Beginning

In the year 2407 The relations with the Klingon Empire had escalated to the point that both factions where nearing an all out war. As a result Starfleet Command decided to authorise the reactivation of the 12th Fleet under the command of Admiral Scientia. An officer who was a sound tactician and held his own in a fight but who was not trigger happy.

He spend the next year assembling his fleet comprised of some of the best ships and crew from all over the Federation. Their numbers swelled and it was not long after this the 12th Fleet was a force to be reckoned with.

The home of this group of valiant Starfleet officers would be an experimental space station on the edge of the Klingon/Federation border equipped with the latest technologies. The base was constructed and completed at enormous cost due to the speed it had to be operational by the year 2409. The year everything changed.

This is the story of the 12th Fleet, their location: Starbase Valhalla.
