I will say: Remember it is a beta. The devs will do anything they feel they need to do to solve any issues found.

Expect random server restarts, patching, data wipes, possible character wipes, etc. Its a beta.

Also, in terms of skipping out on work - I plan on taking a few days off myself - however I plan to wait to do this for when it really counts: Head Start.

No point in taking time off work to play the beta when the efforts are just going to be wiped anyway. =)

I was thinking of the head start too but am afraid of issues at launch that mean I'll spend my day off watching TV and constantly checking for server to come up, patch to download etc.

id still take days off for headstart. beta.. not so much.. are we even having a fleet in beta? il start anouther thread and ask.

Assuming you can make a fleet, I don't see why we shouldn't. It would make sense to get used to the fleet mechanics out of the box. At least, I would like to. Especially if crafting is in the beta, fleet bank etc.
