YOU :!: are Invited to
The Fleet-Wide Squad of the Month Meet!

The scheduling of the October Meet is now OPEN.

Hello All,

Time to schedule this month's Meet!

The leading option currently is Saturday the [20]th.

The other choices are: Sunday the 28th, Saturday the [27]th, Sunday the 21st, Saturday the 13th, and Sunday the 14th For the 13th or 14th to be viable options, the decision would need to be made by Sunday the 7th or 8th (respectively) to allow for at least five days notice before the Meet.

Scheduling Rules:
Post your scheduling choice in a reply below. Note that dates you say you cannot attend are more important than the dates that you say you prefer in deciding the date of the meet. We are trying to get the highest turn out of all squad members for the first hour. Thus, if 5 people prefer a date but 1 more can attend only on another date, then the date on which 6 can attend will win even though 5 of the 6 preferred a different date. It is assumed that you can attend all the date options, unless you clearly state otherwise in a post below or have communicated that fact to me directly.

Extra weight is given to the votes of squad captains, squad XOs, and anyone who is actually committing to showing up at a time (as opposed to "maybe" showing). Scheduling depends ultimately on who wants to participate and who will actually show up. In order to get the maximum turn out from US and European members, our starting time is traditionally set on a weekend at 10 PM in UK (which in winter is the same as GMT/UTC), but the time chosen depends on who is committing to be there. However, if the Meet is held on Sunday the 28th, then the time for European members will be one hour earlier than usual (though still at 9 PM UT) because Europe goes off the summer-time clock that day.

What is Squad of the Month?
The Squad of the Month ("SotM") meet is a monthly fleet event which starts with an inter-squad competition to determine the Fleet's Squad of the Month. The competition is followed by group activities which may include: build advice, challenge match PvP, teaming up to cruise the PvE/PvP queues, and just hanging out together on TS. We are a casual fleet, and participation in any portion of SotM is optional.

Currently we are experimenting with the competition being based purely on attendance, but with PvP still included as an option for ties and as part of the post competition activities. (See Changing Squad of the Month Rules.)

Scheduling has been open for over a week. A conflict was voiced to the original suggested date, but no conflict was voiced to the alternative date. Therefore, the next Squad of the Month meet will be:

Saturday, October 20, at 21:00 UTC (i.e., 10PM BST, 5PM EDT, 4PM CDT, 2PM PDT) :!:

The scheduling of the October meet is now CLOSED.

Your Squad Needs YOU!
Saturday, October 20 at 21:00 UTC
(i.e., 10PM BST, 5PM EDT, 4PM CDT, 2PM PDT)

Squad of the Month meet is THIS SATURDAY!
Attendance is a big part of scoring the winner. Don't let your squad go down without a fight!

The Meet will convene on Discord in a channel labeled "Squad of the Month" at the time set forth above.

New Rules for Competition: We are experimenting with new rules for the competition portion of the meet. The winner of the competition will be determined principally by attendance during the first 15 minutes ("grace period") of the meet. The squad with the most members logging into the Discord channel during the grace period wins. However, if any squad shows up with its full membership during the grace period but still does not have enough numbers to win the competition, then the result will be a tie between all squads with their full membership attending and the squad with the largest number of members attending. If there is a tie, then the winner of the competition will be determined either by dice roll ("/emote roll dice" in game), or by any other method agreed upon between the tying parties (e.g., PvP match, trivia question, etc.). Any method other than dice roll for resolving a tie, must be approved by the convener of the meet (normally me) as being swift enough to be resolved simply without taking up the whole meet or leaving the winner undetermined beyond the end of the meet.

After the competition we will have activities for the remainder of the evening, including: challenge match PvP, build advice, teaming up to cruise the queues, and just hanging out together on TS. :)

Congratulations to Alpha Squad Engineering for winning the Squad of the Month meet for October 2018!

The initial grace period of the meet ended in an attendance tie between Engineering squads Alpha (A Team) and Charlie (Azier) . As per the new rules for the competition, the method for resolving the tie was left to the decision of the two squad captains, who agreed to duel it out in Space PvP. The ensuing combat lasted over 25 minutes in a hard fought battle. The Azier captain reduced the hull of the A Team captain to almost 0 several times with sudden onslaughts of Science attacks. The Alpha captain engineer repeatedly bounced back from near death, launching fusillades of dps. In the end, the A Team won with a score of 5 to 1.

Kudos to all who participated in the meet, including, build advice and cruising of queues (with many tries of the new random TFOs at advanced level) that went on until midnight CT; including as follows:

Compston
Cmdraftbrn

Jay Maverick
KirwinHansel
Kuvak
N5XTR (Joel)
Neoluna
Sysil
Zoltan417
