For those that have read the books, do you find it strange that STO would put Geordi at the helm of the USS Challenger when in the books, Scotty is the captain?

Not taking anything away from it, love that La Forge is back and am enjoying the Nexus Mission. Just a question since STO decided to put the USS Challenger into the mix.

I don't find it particularly strange, since Cryptic seems to pick and choose from canon and non-canon sources alike. And, according to "Indistinguishable from Magic" (via Memory Beta's summary):
Spoiler: show
"Subsequently, Scotty chooses to retire from Starfleet, become a civilian specialist, and promotes Geordi La Forge to captain, giving him command of the Challenger."

and

"After stealing away to the Challenger, Scotty holds the ship until the Tomalak's Fist travels back through the fold and destroys the Starfleet vessel to un-fold space and close the opening. But at the instant the ship implodes, Scotty is transported away -- unsure if he'll survive inside the toroidal continuum fold, but prepared for the possibility of death."

So technically, the Challenger shouldn't even exist anymore, going by the TNG Relaunch. Since Cryptic also ignored the ST: Destiny books... *shrug* seems to make sense they'd base the idea of Geordi captaining the Challenger on VOY: "Timeless" instead.

Either way, I dig the fact LeVar Burton agreed to do some VO work. I can't help but go into "Reading Rainbow" mode whenever I hear him speak. :)
