Hi guys, just thought I'd update you!! Thanks to everyone for the great advice. After a bit of saving up and some perfectly-timed birthday money, I got myself a new system, and even managed to build it and get it going in time for Delta Rising

Nice, I had a similar experience when I upgraded just after season 9. It's so satisfying. I initially had to run a wifi connection as I had no Cat6 in the room I was set up in, but I have since run Cat6 through the house and that too made a noticeable difference to my game play.

I went with:
- AMD FX-4300 quad-core processor
- EVGA GeForce GT 740 2GB graphics card
- 500W power supply
- 2 x 2GB RAM
- 1TB HDD

I've gone wireless N since wired isn't feasible in my house, and a 22" 1080p monitor. Also I'm kind of loving Windows 8

I'll post some pics when I get home Although I apologise in advance for the gaudy box, it was the cheapest one they had that had the features I wanted (tool-less optical drive and HDD slots). Also I'm not a cable-maintenance expert so maybe the window on the side was poorly-advised Still, I reallllllly loved building it, it was good fun! And obviously got the result I wanted!
