So, Walter Koenig, Tim Russ, Robert Picardo and some other Trek/Non-Trek actors have put together an indiegogo project for a new Star Trek series; Star Trek: Renegade. It's already reached its goal of $20k in 7 days, with 23 days left. They want to make a pilot episode to present to CBS in the hopes of creating a new Star Trek series. Honestly, I think it's a cool idea, and I like the look of their stuff. The casting seems pretty cool, too. Check it out if you want to help them reach higher goals in a better bid to get this show made!

unless they are dancing with the cast, singing about it, or showcase their teenage daughters getting pregnant it probably won't get picked up by a network
I miss the days of American TV actually being good...

Actually, network TV is no longer needed to get a good series on. House Of Cards is an excellent series on Netflix, and has a massive viewership. Arrested Developement is back. Even Amazon's Prime service is putting out shows. If it generates enough buzz it has more of a chance now than ever.
But yeah, Renegades has been around awhile now, ever since "Star Trek: Of Gods and Men" was completed by the same indie company aptly named "Renegade." I'm currently watching Gods and Men, and about half way through. It's pretty good so far, acting is a little weak, but it is an indie film.
Sounds like a hybrid of Trek and Firefly. Would have a strong fanbase, but I don't see this having a broad enough appeal for full TV commitment. They could pull it off as a web series though.

Trust me, it's not just America that has it bad. Irish TV takes American TV concepts and makes them "Irish". We have a TV show called Tallafornia. Tallagh is one of the worst places in Ireland in terms of petty crime. Within the first few episodes the hot tub was stolen in the house it was filmed in. The show is basically the Irish Jersey Shore. . . it's awful. And then there's the Gypsy Wedding show and the like. . . And that's why Netflix is better than TV

Though each series had its own focus, in the end it was about the life, times, and adventures of Starfleet officers making their way through the galaxy. Law was always an underlying theme, even on Voyager when they abandoned a lot of protocols.
I mean, as interesting as the Maquis was, there's a reason that there was never a full-on Maquis show - the first time that they blew up a Starfleet vessel or a ship of what turned out to be innocent civilian Cardassians the fanbase would have imploded on them.
With the core idea of Renegades being to go against Starfleet, even if there are subversive elements within it and with the end goal of saving the Federation, in the end they'd just be criminals.
I may eat my words if the show comes out and it's good, but for the moment I'm going to say that I'm betting that while Star Trek fans do want something different in terms of theme in the next series, whatever it is, they don't want lawlessness and fighting against Starfleet.

I do. DS9 pushed the envelope of lawlessness, and I loved that show. I am honestly tired of this goodie two shoe, we can do no wrong Federation and Starfleet. Every society has corruptness, and a show that exposes it would be like a breath of fresh air.
